A Day Trip to Haldia

Post by Sanjit | Kolkata | Sep 1, 2012

Haldia is about 3 Hr drive from Kolkata. If you start from Kolkata at 7 AM you can take the Kona Expressway after crossing the 2nd Hooghly Bridge (vidyasagar Setu) and take the left lane after crossing Santragachi to be on the right track to Kharagpur or popularly what is known as Bombay Road. You can have breakfast just after crossing Uluberia, at the Azad Hind Dhaba - decent place beside the BP Petrol Pump just after crossing the Truck Lay by. The route is Uluberia - Mecheda - Nandakumar - Haldia. Road conditions: The National Highway till Mecheda is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral (Toll Road) and from Mecheda you take the State Highway where you should be careful about goats and cows running into your path. There are also many motels to tickle your taste buds on this route. While Coming Back: If you start in the evening - you can have dinner at the Sher e Punjab at Kolaghat. The food is decent and you get good North Indian food. Please do not venture into Chinese or Continental at Sher e Punjab - unless you really want to curse the food!

Haldia revisited

Post by Suryasarathi | Kolkata | Jan 25, 2013

I took up train to Tamluk and then by car. There is only passenger train to Haldia as of now. However good buses are there upto Mecheda. Can cross the river at Kukrahati around 25 KM and reach Raichak.
