Kolkata to Haldia by road is about 117 km.
The entire road is well-built and maintained Bitumen Road. After crossing city traffic, and on hitting the highway after crossing Kona Express brings smile on my face. Six lane road. Road condition is also good. So the drive was very comfortable. There is one Toll payment from Kona to Kolaghat. Charge is Rs. 90. From Kona to Kolaghat it would take 1 hours non-stop.
After crossing Kolaghat you have to take Haldia Exit on your left and then you will be on NH 41. Before reaching Haldia you will hit another toll. You have to pay Rs. 70 here. Kolaghat to Haldia phase is 4 lane.
On this highway you will cross Nandakumar, from where if you take right, you will reach holiday destinations like Digha, Sankarpur, Mandarmoni & Tajpur. From Nandakumar crossing it takes 20 minutes to reach Haldia.
While crossing Kolkaghat, you can break for some good food at Sher E Punjab or at Xpress Plaza. Food at both the places are remarkable and worth eating.
There are in total 2 nos. Toll tax payment places on the road. Toll tax for the route is Rs. 140/- single way.
The road from Kolkata to Haldia is controlled-access highways, mostly 6-lane, where entrance and exit is controlled by the use of slip roads (ramps) that are incorporated into the design of the highway.
The speed on highway is mostly unregulated and is mostly slowed by heavy trucks in middle lanes.
Safety Alert : The highway is also used by pedestrians and cyclists creating dangerous situations (Nandakumar to Haldia phase is a pain).

Taking the Diamond Harbour is the best option to reach Haldia from Kolkata. The only problem is that road is single lane. But the quality of the road is pretty good and the drive is a pretty comfortable one taking about 3 hours to reach Haldia. There are no quality dhabas present on the way. But average roadside arrangements are available. The Akshardham Temple en-route is one of the must-visit sides. Continue of the Diamond Harbour Road after crossing Falta to reach Haldia.
