It was two months ago when I travelling to Mukutmonipur Dam. I live at College Street in Kolkata so at first we caught a bus for Howrah Station from College Street. Then we started our journey by Siromoni fast passenger and we reached to Bankur Station. After that we ride on a Bakura-Khatra bus after reaching Khatra we took a Maruti and at last we reached our final destination Mukutmonipur. As it was the starting of rainy season so we enjoyed a huge and wonderful view Mukutmonipur Dam.

The best way to travel to Mukutmonipur from Kolkata is thru NH2, via. Durgapur and Bankura. NH2 undoubtedly is very good, but I was apprehensive of the roads from Durgapur-Bankura and onwards. But the roads turned out to be quite good. There were some rough patches at Bankura but overall the roads has been brilliant. 20km approach roads to Mukutmonipur is picturesque, feels like driving down the countryside meadows. It will take around 5.5 hrs of drive from Kolkata with 45-60 minutes break for refreshment. Break for langcha at Shaktigarh is a must. Total length of around 260 km. I took a different route while returning. I drove to Bishnupur from Mukutmonipur. Roads from Mukutmonipur to Bishnupur too are brilliant. There is a shortcut through the woods and I did not expect the empty inhabited roads to be so good running through fairly good forest stretch. The length of journey from Mukutmonipor to Bishnupur is around 70km. Last 15-20 km was bumpy. The roads are currently under repair. Should be OK if you are driving one after one month from now. But avoid driving through this road during night. If you happen to go to Bishnupur from Mukut at night take the road thru Bankura which is longer by about 20 kms. I stayed at Bishnupur for a day. From Bishnupur, I returned to Kolkata via Garbeta, Chandrakona, Salboni (NH60) and Kharagpur, Debra, Kolaghat (NH6). That was a mixed experience. Roads had some rough patches between Bishnupur to Salboni, with a very good 7 km stretch around Garbeta. From Salboni to Kharagpur driving on NH60 was a pleasure to say the least. NH6, from Kharagpur to Kolkata is brilliant as always, it is currently expanded to 6 lane, and driving was again pleasure. It took me total 4 hrs, non stop drive from Bishnupur to Kolkata through this road measuring around 220 km approx.

The journey was good. You should go Durgapur through Durgapur Express Highway and from there you have to come to Bankura. You should avoid to come through Arambhagh because the road is not good enough and time consuming. The bus had comfortable seat.

The road condition is very good except for few patches. The is because of non stop rains the authorities are unable to repair the same. The entire road destination needs some good restaurants and rest rooms. Road signs are good but some more would always help.
