There are trains to Sakleshpur from Bangalore and Mangalore 3 days a week. It is also only a 4 hour drive from Bangalore. So, get out on a weekend and enjoy the hills, greenery, waterfalls and the fresh air.

Best to use your own vehicle. Just about a four hour drive from Bangalore and possibly 2-3 hours from Mangalore. Day train is available from Bangalore and lots of buses but you'll be strapped for transport unless you're planning to be at a homestay that provides you with a vehicle to move around. The monsoon is pretty strong in this region and although it is the most beautiful time, it can also be daunting for those who dislike wet weather.
