The road condition was good and consistent. No tolls on the way. We stopped twice for coconut water and tea. We crossed small villages as we went, so you cannot increase your speed much. The road is also a bit narrow at some places, though should not be a problem, since the traffic is less.
I travelled to Rameswaram from Madurai by train and it was a nice experience and I went with my family. On the way we reached Rameswaram and first we went on Pamban Bridge and it was a nice experience. Travelling on water over 2.5 km cool breeze, nice sightseeing, boating, fishing etc. Must travel place.
We planned the vacation from 31st, May 2012 to 19th June 2012 to visit Madurai and Rameswaram. We started the journey by train from Agra Thirukkural Exp in the morning and reached Madurai the next day morning. In Madurai we visited Meenkashi Temple, Thirumalainaick Palace and later travelled to Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal, Gandhi Museum. Scenes from the train were good and the journey to Madurai is really good but beware of pick-pocketers.
After Madurai we hired a taxi and started our journey to Rameswaram. We caught NH-49 from Madurai and reached Rameswaram within 3.30 hrs. We just stopped before Pamban Bridge to see bluish great ocean from there (seems very good if you are from inland areas, I am from U.P.).
In Rameswaram we visited-Ramanathaswamy Temple(must visit), its nearby sea shore (very beautiful), Dhanushkodi, Tample Tanks, Abdul Kalam sir's birth house etc. Really a very beautiful place to visit.
We travelled by car. Rameshwaram is a beautiful place to go with family and friends. The Siva Temple was very nice. The beach was nice to watch and swim. The family members enjoyed with fun and religious. The fantastic sea food. I liked the unlimited fish meals. But Tamil Nadu tourism want to improve the place for cleaning.
