This journey was on an official purpose, I travelled by my car with my colleagues. It was a two hour journey with lot of sharing. We had a little bit of refreshment in between. It was raining and drizzling the whole way. Came across three toll gates. Crossed places like Viralimalai, Thuvarankurichi.

Mode of Transport:Train
This train - Tirunelveli Exp (22627) - leaves Tiruchchirappalli Junction (About 1km from Central Bus Stand) in the morning at 7.15 AM and is scheduled to arrive at Madurai at around 9.35 AM giving you enough time to visit the Madurai Meenakshi Temple located just 20-30 mins away from Madurai Junction. One of the fastest when compared to taking a Bus, but the route itself is plagued by traffic of oncoming trains to Trichy and subject to signal clearances. You may as well end up sitting out an extra 30-60 minutes in case there are delays along the route.

If you wish to seek an alternative then Rameswaram Express is best one and can be taken little early at around 6.35 AM.

Only three stops between the station. Train departed at 07.00 am from Madurai and reached the destination at 08.50 hrs.

So that we can travelled the area on the same day itself and to Thanchavoor. We contacted a travel agencies and booked a taxi with their help. Accordingly we visited Rockfort temple, Sreerangapatanam, Vaigai dam and Mosque, Churches and many other temples in the locality.
