There are trains going from most stations to delhi. There are planes from most major airports, and of course there is road travel. One has to make sure that from the airport one takes a prepaid taxi since otherwise Delhi taxi drivers are not known for their honesty. Also, it is better to coordinate travel timings so that one reaches in the daytime unless being received at the station or airport.

We went by railway from Howrah. There can be an immense delay due to fogs in winter. We reached 14 hours late! Get in touch with your Hotel and inform them of the delay so that you are not stranded. Be wary of cabbies and autos who will take you for a ride if you are not familiar with the place.
