Coorg....a heaven

Post by chef amit | Mumbai | Jul 30, 2011

We went from Mumbai via Mangalore...caught the Madhyagantha express , reached Mangalore and from there u have two choices..taxi and bus..taxis cost around 2500 one side and buses from 100 to 300 per person...KSRTC buses are pretty good, though not total luxury, but travellable....only problem is the road from Mangalore to Coorg (one has to say Madikeri not Coorg, since Coorg is the region and Madikeri the exact place)..is full of pot holes , so it takes a good 5 hrs to reach, but once u reach there, all your tiredness disappears....there are plenty of hotels and home stays there.

I went from Mumbai and the travel from Mangalore to Coorg is painfully long for a 140km distance. Mysore is close by so you could tag along a trip to that wonderful city in this trip.

Travelling by buses to reach Coorg or probably by hiring a Car will be one of the best options. There are couple of buses which go to Coorg and the travel itself has its own meaning as you get an opportunity to view the beautiful valley. Avoid riding a 2 wheeler in monsoon as its not favourabe. Also while walking in dense forests please avoid lonely places

Bliss!!

Post by Savio | Bangalore | Jan 28, 2011

I have traveled to Coorg from Bangalore. I've traveled by bike, by car as well as by public transport. You need to have your own transport within Coorg. There is hardly any transport system there. So if you're going there using public transport, hire a vehicle to travel within Coorg. If you are travelling from Bangalore to Coorg on your own, the roads are fantastic all the way to Kushalnagar, thats if you are going to the Golden Temple first. I suggest you do that. You get to see the whole of Coorg this way. But you're the traveler. Make your own way and you will see and experience things nobody else has ever seen or experienced. Venturing out to certain places when its dark is not recommended. People in Coorg believe a lot in traditions and the existence of spirits. Many people have experienced it. Unless you too want to experience it, stay indoors. Although I've stayed out and never experienced it, people might feel you are disrespecting the spirits of the past. So you might want to avoid that. Apart from that, you really have nothing else to worry about. Just get to Coorg and experience BLISS!!

The best way is taking a bus from Mysore via Kushalnagar. The roads are also ok in this route. Try not to reach too early in the morning or late at night, unless you have a vehicle, or some one to pick you up there, because before 6 in the morning and after 9 or 10 in the evening, this place is so deserted.
