Well, to begin with the destination is Tungi, which is about 12 kms from Lonavala, we are members of Club Mahindra. The drive, overall was smooth, but for the horrendous stretch of about 6 kms, from the resort. We ( A family of 6 members with 2 kids) left on 24th December and spent three nights there. A serene and laid back locale with all the trappings of a holiday resort( swimming pool/library/sports facility/ after sundown entertainment etc/ good food served in a well-stocked restaurant)
This place is a good getaway from Mumbai and in view of its proximity to Mumbai and the ease of travel thro the Pune expressway combines all the features of a relaxed and fun-filled holidays. More significantly, there is exclusivity/ a lovely lake( Pawna) and is cut off from the humdrum of Lonavala.
The train journey offers exciting and natural view of the Shayadri Ranges with waterfalls along the route. There are several tunnels along the route through which the train passes, truly an engineering marvel. Everyone should travel and experience the train journey as it is the safest mode of communication.
Journey by train up to Lonavala is very convenient. There are trains from Mumbai as well as Pune up to Lonavala. You can keep your camera ready as you are likely to get some good sights all along. Donít miss the Chikkis and the Chivda on your way back.
