As we faced three Ghats, it was a cool experience driving. I and my friend both drove through Express Highway till Pune then by NH 17. Ghats before Mahabaleshwar were not maintained. Rest its a worth driving there. As there are so many places around to visit.
Bus started right on time at 9 pm from Borivali. They picked us up from Gokulanand hotel at Dahisar West. The bus reached Vashi at around 12 midnight. They made us wait until the bus got full. Pune halt was not scheduled when I booked the bus ticket. It was added during the travel. 6 hours journey almost took 10 and half hours.
Nice to Travel with Neeta Bus as it has all the facilities. We have boarded the bus at night and in the bus there were all facilities like Blankets and Pillows for sleeping. Also it has a charging point so that you can charge your mobile on the way. Nice to travel.
I didn't drive. One of us 5 friends drove. He is a driver with good judgement. And that is what is necessary in the ghats. Once you go for sightseeing, the roads aren't straight. People from Mumbai are not that good driving in Mahabaleshwar. But my friend was an exception. The best thing about car is that we can stop anywhere during our journey and enjoy, click pics and do whatever we want (under a limit and following the rules, of course). We are going to plan more car trips hence forth.
The roads are good, only don't miss the right turn for Wai. The uphill drive to Mahabaleshwar was good don't try to drive fast enjoy the view during the drive. During the drive you will find a locals selling spices and vegetables worth buying on your way back. Also strawberry when you buy don't buy in the market buy it on your way back as you can bargain and get good quantity.
