So much joy in travelling from Mumbai to Mahabeshwar. Good place to visit and relax in holidays. Mapro Garden is amazing. I could spend the whole day there. The food near Mapro Garden was great. I still remember the crowd but the speed of making Pizza.
We had travelled to Mahabaleshwar in Innova. I preferred SUV for heavy weight on the highways because the roads are a bit risky at Mahabaleshwar. Mumbai Pune Expy is best equipped will all facilities and good roads. Traveling by car gives the benefit at Mahabaleshwar otherwise you will have to hire a car to travel within Mahabaleshwar.
The road to travel through bus is very bad. If you travel with state transport it is worst that can happen to you. Mostly the bus service is available during evening time. So you won't be able to see many of the surroundings. I personally feel you should travel with your own vehicle this can help in sightseeing.
Its always a pleasure driving down to Mahabaleshwar from Mumbai. It takes me approximately 5.30 hours to touch down including 3 stops for ginger chai, vada pav and a nature break. Roads are good and one can cruise. The Pasarni Ghat enroute Panchgani is awesome and provides a great view.
We travelled by our own car to avoid any timetable bound trip as all of us wanted to relax and stop over wherever we wanted. It was fun to explore places on the way and enjoyed roadside food.
At Mahabaleshwor, we hired a guide who could also drive. He took us to all important places and also explained the details of the sites. This was fun as we didn't had the tension of parking and tourist tickets as the guide managed everything.
We could spend good long hours at the place and we enjoyed more without any restrictions of public transport.
