Hotel Navarathna on the Main Road is reasonably priced, clean and offers AC and non-AC rooms. Avoid visiting Karwar in April and May, when the weather is very sultry and humid. November to March are the best months to visit Karwar. If you are driving from Karwar to the south, next to Indian Oil petrol pump before reaching Ankola, stop at Kamath Upchar restaurant for snacks, breakfast or wholesome vegetarian Thali for lunch. In Ankola, a visit to the spaciously built and very attractive- looking Laxminarayan Mahamaya Temple is a must. Then on to Kumta (you should buy “Sahyadri” brand, salted cashewnuts in a shop opposite Kamath Hotel on the Highway. They are better in quality and cheaper than what you would pay in cities) and Honnavar (a smaller port town than Karwar) and you reach Murudeshwar just off the Highway. Stay in RNS Residency Hotel overlooking the expanse of the Arabian sea (ask for see-facing room on a high floor, at no extra cost). Murudeshwar has a tall Gopuram (gate to a temple. You can go up by a lift), Murudeshwar temple and a huge and imposing statue of Shiva on a small hill. Breakfast or snacks is recommended at a moderately priced restaurant built in the sea waters just outside RNS Residency and lunch or dinner at Naveen Beach Resort on the beach. One day and one night are adequate to take in Murudeshwar. From Murudeshwar to Udupi and then on to Mangalore, is about 4 hours drive along the sea coast. The Highway is good and smooth and traffic limited.

Karwar....Truly Amazing

Post by Raj | Mumbai | Feb 15, 2010

We caught an overnight train (CSTM- KArwar Exp) from Mumbai leaving CST @ 10:15 pm and reaching Karwar @ 8:20 am. While coming back, you can catch Matasyagandha Exp @ 7:15 pm from Karwar and Reach LTT @ 6:30 AM. Trains in Konkan railways are one of tbe best. 3 AC Fare - 750 (appx.) and Sleeper - 350 (appx.) If traveling from Bangalore, you can catch an overnight bus (VRL, SeaBird, Paulao etc). VRL non AC sleeper bus leaves Gandhinagar @ 8:00pm and reaches Karwar @ 7:00 AM. Return bus leaves Karwar @ 7:00 pm and reaches @ 6:30 AM. Tickets are @ Rs 400 (Appx.) One should try to travel Karwar directly since using alternate options like Hubli/Dharwad by road will be very tiring and time consuming.
