Kovalam is just a half hour drive from the city centre and accessibility isn't an issue at all. Though I didn't make the trip, apparently the main beach, the Hawwa beach is where the action is - check it out.

A bad experience in Kovalam

I was asked by a friend to have silk sari blouses made. I chose the tailor's shop in front of Soma Palmshore hotel, thinking that it will surely be reliable. I had three nice blouses made, and the owner assured me that the material was genuine silk. The blouses were made and I brought them back to Finland to my friend. He was a specialist and could tell immediately that the material was not silk, but viscose. I had thus been badly cheated. So, my warning: avoid the tailor's shop in front of Soma Plamshore hotel at Lighthouse road! Or take a specialist with you who can see the difference between viscose and silk!

Kovalam - good place for YOGA

The nearest airport for Kovalam is Trivandrum. Also reach by train to Trivandrum station. When taking a train journey, purchase tickets at least a couple of days in advance. From Trivandrum it is a 20 to 30 minute car ride to Kovalam. A rickshaw from Trivandrum to Kovalam should cost no more than Rs.200. Alcohol is available at the small restaurants along the sea front but as they cannot afford a licence, it is usually disguised in a teapot or similar.
