The journey from Nainital to Kausani is about 116 km through Ranikhet. It takes around 6 hrs. The roads are smooth but there are too many twists and turns. My son vomited thrice during the journey. The pine forest all through out the journey and the Koshi River go along with you. At Baijnath one can see the Gomati River.

The safari from Nainital to Kausani was smooth and haste free, the Toyota-Innova (we hired) moved swift (with almost no jerk) in the winding but even paths running along the hill-slopes. I must say that compared to the Garhwal Range, the Kumayun is more developed for tourism and roads are in better/ advanced condition due to proper maintenance.

The paths enfolded by host of tall trees - pine, oak and debdarus was fascinating. Breaking through the thick mist we were passing the mystical woods (where only calmness prevails), chilled moist and breeze with occasional drizzles accompanied us - we were moving through heaven - a land of cloud and abound scenic beauty.

On our way we came across some unavoidable sightseeing - the golf court (where scenes from 'Raja Hindustani' were shot), some anonymous temples (but beautiful), brooks, army camps etc. Notably we found red soil everywhere around, on which were stretched some lush green - the combination was fabulous.

The places we came across in our journey were either less populated, desolated or rustic, so hardly we found Dhabas or major restaurants, so one can refresh mainly in the roadside tea-stalls (which avail good Desi-food and hot tea/coffee or juices to energize one up). We had a monsoon trip and probably it took us 15 k for three day's trip. (not sure as the financial matters are still handled by elders).

When you get to see different views of the Himalayas and have glimpses of spectacular sights from nearly every corner of the hotel - often the tranquil solemn forests swept with mists and often the great silvery pics or in general the richly tinged backdrop from different angles, it's complete...more »

This road trip was really very much exciting as the beautiful nature surrounded us while travelling. This kind of experience is really superb. During the journey we saw the ranges of Himalayas and had a nice cup of tea on the way. Picture perfect views and you can take it on your way to Kausani.

No tiredness enjoyed every movement of driving. Since it is mountain terrain be careful, though roads are good but it is zigzag. People with vomiting tendency might not find it comfortable so anti vomiting medicine is advisable. Do not drive in night as the place is very lonely and after 7 PM or before you would not find much of the shops. I was told that I should take Bhowali Almora route as the route from Ranikhet was not good. Almora is good to see in Night it is beautiful. Also if you are credit card kind of person, carry cash as credit cards are not acceptable in most of the places.
