One has to first reach Siliguri(New Jalpaiguri) to visit Darjeeling. About 10 kms from Siliguri is the Bhagdhogra airport and also connected with major airports of the country. From SIligury the journey to Darjeeling can be either by road or rail. If travelling by bus the travel is about 80 kms and takes about 3 hours. You can engage a smaller private vehicle which takes a shorter route and the distance is reduced by about 15 kms. The toy train journey can be taken if you ae not in a hurry as it takes about 8 hours. All through the journey till Darjeeling, the rail line crosses the road almost hundred times.

The closest broad gauge railway station is New Jalpaiguri [85km]. Pre-paid taxis are available at Rs. 1000.00. Carry heavy woolens is winter. Check water availability at your hotel/resort as there is a tremendous shortage in Darjeeling.
