Surat being a major city is easily reachable from other Indian cities. By rail: Most of the trains running on Mumbai-Ahemdabad route halt at Surat. also, many rickshaws and GSRTC Buses are readily available from bus stand near railway station. By road: Surat is located at about 260 km from Mumbai and 240 km from Ahemdabad near NH8. The excellent conditions of roads make driving an pleasing experience. By Air: Domestic airport exists at Surat. Travel-tips : Tourists travelling from Maharashtra can visit Saputara( hill station, about 2-3 hrs away from Surat) on return via Nasik road. Also, tourists returning via NH8 can take diversion to visit Daman en-route. Negotiate on rickshaw fare beforehand on consulting locals. Also, art of bargaining can strike good deals while shopping !

Train is the best option to reach from Mumbai. Possibly try and get reservation done before you travel. It is cheap and convinient. Do not pay much to rickshaw drivers, confirm the distance and fare with nearby shop keepers or from your hotel.
