I travelled by KSRTC bus(Rajahamsa). It was quite comfortable. I am travelling between Pondicherry and Bangalore quite frequently, almost once or twice in a month. I travelled by all types of buses which runs by different organizations, government as well as private. I have used buses of Karnataka(KSRTC ), Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry governments, these including ordinary buses, delux, ultra delux, and AC buses. But I felt Rajahamsa is the best option, as these are quite comfortable and cheap also compared to AC(Volvo) buses. Ordinary bus are very cheap but not advisable for a long journey. On-board entertainment, blankets and water is provided in AC Volvo buses only. So if anybody ask, I will advice for Rajahamsa only.

We went from Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Thiruvannamalai (Ramana Ashram)-Pondicherry. Please do not take this route unless you really have to. Its great till Krishnagiri and then its just pathetic with bone breaking roads. Instead take Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Vellore-Arcot-Vandavasi-Tindivanam-Pondicherry. This was the road that we took while returning.

From Bangalore to Vellore is a six lane road where you can zoom till 80-100 kmph easily. Very minimal construction is going on. From Tindivanam again, there is a great 4 lane road till Pondicherry. Roads till Pondi are pretty good as its a Union Territory. Take this route to have a great trip (lush green fields on both sides and beautiful hills for some part of the journey).

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night and it was one of the best times of our life. The plus point of the hotel is that it has rooms which give a good view of the sea. Please note that the view is not a entire view of the sea. Regardless itís still breath taking. There was a big porch like...more »

One fine evening four friends just decided to take a road trip to Pondicherry. We started our journey at 6 30 in the morning from Hosur Road Bangalore. We took the NH-66. The roads are pretty good. There was a snitch at Krishnagiri where there was construction going on the highway. That apart the roads are six lane highways with smooth flowing traffic. The route is peppered with highway dhabas and tea stalls. There are some prominent hotels en-route. You can make a pit stop at Sarovar Portico near Hosur or McDonalds near Krishnagiri.

After Vellore, one has to take the State highway towards Arcot. Now the State highway is not that maintained and there are fewer restaurants here. One can still easily buy water and cool drinks, but getting good food or bathrooms on this state highway is a little difficult so you need to be prepared for that. The roads open up again towards Tindivanam.

We had some hiccups during the ride, the initial one being the failure of the car's air conditioner. And since it was the month of April, by afternoon, we were roasted. It is very difficult to find a mechanic on the State highway.

One way trip took us around six and half hours with two petrol stops, one breakfast stop and some more pit stops.

We took an impromptu road trip to Pondicherry in March. But March is not the perfect time to visit Pondicherry. The weather is too hot and humid. The city has some nice places to eat and is a haven for sea food lovers. There are some very fancy French restaurants too. The Promenade is the...more »

My family, friends and I travelled to Pondicherry by road on 29th August. It was a pleasant trip considering that it was a cloudy day and we had to stop multiple times for our kids to take a break.

The route we took to reach Pondicherry was

1. On Hosur Road till Krishnagiri.
2. At Krishnagiri turn left towards Vellore - Chennai Route.
3. Travel on this road uptill Arcot which comes after Vellore.
4. There is a bridge at Arcot that crosses the Palar River. Before you get on the bridge turn right towards Cheyyar/Vandavasi.

We missed this turn and took the bridge. At the end of the bridge we took a right turn (V turn) onto another parallel bridge that crosses the river back and brings you to this cheyyar/Vandavasi route.

5. Once on the Cheyyar Route, till Tindivanam the roads are two lane roads. But it was newly laid and you could travel at 80-100 km ph.
6. After Tindivanam you hit a proper toll road that takes you all the way to Pondicherry.

The Krishnagiri -> Tiruvannamalai -> Pondicherry route has really bad roads and we avoided that route.

There is nothing much to see on the way except for some good scenic mountains. But when you are travelling with friends, stopping anywhere for a break is fun. We started from home at 7 am in the morning and reached Pondicherry at around 2:30 pm. Inside Pondi the traffic is not bad until 5:30 after which its difficult to drive.

Hope this review helps and drive safe.

We started from Bangalore at around 5:00 AM in the morning. After crossing Hosur had our breakfast at Anand Bhavan. Till Krishnagiri route is OK and you will not feel the bumps. But after that condition of the road is horrible. There was one Ashram in Tiruvannamalai where it was flooded with foreigners. Next came Gingee fort. It was amazing but unfortunately it was too hot to step out of the car and we skipped it. Next came Tindivanam, a small town.rnrnJourney was OK as we were in a group of 6. But roads conditions is horrible. Looks like construction is going on there which will never end. Also, if you are going by a taxi you have to pay road tax at two places Hosur and Pondicherry, which will come out to be 1000 Rs. And we reached Pondicherry at around 2:00 PM. We were late.
