You can fly down or take a train to either Bangalore or Coimbatore, and drive down to Ooty. The drive from Bangalore takes about six hours, which includes stop for food and other necessities. A government bus takes 8 hours. The drive from Coimbatore will take about 2 hours. You can take the train from Mettupalayam if you have time on hand. - If driving down from Bangalore, it is cheaper to book a vehicle via the hotel with a Tamil Nadu registration. - Carry a light jacket, always and wear sensible walking shoes. - Food is strictly ok.

Book early in season is cliche but esp during may when flower and dog shows are arranged and vacations in schools.Post Diwali is the best season.Go from Coimbatore or bangalore as per your option.Have your own vehicle is the best choice,then stay as much away from crowded areas as you can.
