Nearest holiday destination and a quick getaway destination. We decided to go for a weekend and executed the trip at a short notice. Enjoyed the food and stay in Mahabaleshwar. Visited many points. Relished the food. Pleasant place and good destination.
It was awesome drive but now frustrated with these reviews. So keeping it short. Don't forget to see night sky from ghat. Its beautiful. Venna lake is good, the mountain viewpoints are good but only in rainy season. Good food options are available at Mahabaleshwar and on the way to it. No need to carry food in case you are traveling with Kids. Enjoy the fresh Strawberries on the way.
We planned a quick family outing to Mahabaleshwar on the 14th of February and loved it. We had booked through a company called vasacabs - complete package for Rs. 3500 for a single day trip. Single day is enough to see major spots, though we will probably stay for the weekend next time.
Time: Our cab left Pune, Wakad at 6 am. We reached Panchgani by 8 am. The drive was very beautiful.
Key Places Visited:
Panchgani Table Top (45 mins): Fantastic views from this table land perched on a height. We were here early so not too many vendors. We enjoyed the beauty of nature.
Mapro Garden: (1 hour) had a sumptuous breakfast here and also bought Mapro crushes and chocolates. Bought Strawberries just outside the garden.
Venna Lake: (1 hour) Reached here early and did boating here. It was okay. The lake is beautiful though. Lots of vendors selling carrots, corn, strawberries etc.
Mahabaleshwar Market (2 hour): Spent time here shopping and just enjoying the market area. Good lunch options here.
Ludwig Point, Elphinstone Point and Bombay Point (2 hours) We spent the rest of the day touring the points around Mahabaleshwar.
We left at around 6:30 after seeing the sunset. There was a lot of traffic on the way and the journey took 3 hours.
Overall, a great trip - We were lucky to have a good driver who showed us all the spots and luckily the weather was great too!
Tip: Ensure you leave early in the morning so that you don't get caught in traffic.
Took less than 3 hours with any halts for tea and to enjoy scenic beauty. The road from Pune to Panchgani is beautiful and one can have a peaceful ride till there. Many places to have authentic missal pav. You can stop at Sai Chaya Misal House and enjoy their super awesome misal pav at Khed Shivapur.

I had been to this particular hotel with family just for a break. It's aptly located but the old rooms are not worth the price they quote. The renovated rooms are spacious with common balcony and pool facing. I had been there in rainy season so it was more beautiful with fog and rains coming in...more »
