Kodai -the mistyparadise

Post by Deepak | Bangalore | May 24, 2010

Kodaikanal is around 480 kms from Bangalore and one has to take the Salem-Madurai road. It takes around 9-10 hours by road. There is a train which stops at Kodai road station, from where one has to take a taxi/bus (1.5 hours journey) The ghat roads are good, well-maintained and not too many curves and bend. But at some places it is a bit narrow.

Coldy Kanal

We went from Mumbai, via overpriced taxi from Madurai. Coimbatore is a better option if coming by air from N or W India. Bargain hard for off season taxi discounts. Choose a hotel around the lake. Although more expensive, they are quieter and much better located for exploring, hiking etc. Go to Kodai only in the off season.

Four days of Absolute Relaxation and Rejuvenation

Post by Jayashree | Chennai | Jul 19, 2007

It is easily accessible by road from Kodai Road, Dindigul and Madurai railway stations in increasing order of distance. Kodai Road is the nearest railway station and so if you are traveling by train make sure that it stops there. The hotels and resorts usually offer pick ups from these stations. On your return you could book a cab that is on its way back after dropping tourists in Kodai and it would work out cheaper. If you own a car and would not mind driving along the hairpin bends and hilly terrain and would be comfortable doing so that’s the best option especially considering the exorbitant rates of cabs and taxis. But if your car is a new one and you would not want a single scratch on it then better drop that whole idea.

Many travel options, but preferable is a vehicle to yourself, even if on hire. Myriad lodging options as well. Fabulous dorms, hotels, rented home stay. Homemade chocolates are sold at every point so be very selective. Taste before buying and take an idea of the price from locals if buying in bulk.
