From Mumbai one can reach by buses, cars directly or by train to Pune and then by road to Panchgani. one can travel via Pune or via mahad, or via satara. passing through scenic ghats especially in the monsoons passing through clouds and waterfalls.

Food was quite expensive. Taxi was also expensive – they do not charge by kilometers or time, but quote a package to take you to select places. Accommodation needs to be booked in advance so that you do not face any inconvenience. Expenditure is high, but understandably so, because their income is only during the tourist season.

We traveled by road from Baroda to Pune for a night halt and then early morning left for Panchgani. Reached there in about 3 hrs. Fun to have your own vehicle as it becomes easy to go from Panchgani to Mahabaleshwar and nearby places

Carry a sun block or sun screen in summers. Light to moderate woollens are ok in winters. Getting there is easy. Go via the famous NH-4 through pune, or my the beautiful NH-17. 17 is bit dangerous so I'll suggest to go by 4. U can also go by train on CR to wathar n then by bus to wai n finally to panchgani. Most people though prefer road transport. Taxi's are available for local sightseeing. See the tariff board near the taxi stand prior to booking any cab. U can also walk around if u hav ample time. Bikes are not available but if u hav one, it's fun travelling and exploring these places. Warning is that always carry a stick during night time while roaming on roads to drive the snakes away from ur path. The market closes early, so be on time.
