It was a nice experience to travel with my family in the train in the same compartment. Booked ticket as soon as booking was opened since it was vacation time. And we all got seats in the same coach. It started from Trichy at around 8 pm and reached Aluva at around 6 am. We booked rooms at Manjooran Residency which is very near the railway station.
Had taken my family on long drive to Cochin in our car. Had taken the NH-45 to Dindugal and from there to Cochin Via Thekady, Vagamon. Roads are great but slow moving traffic. Lots of green on either side. Thekady is good place to visit and have good restaurants/fast food shops.
Ernakulam_Karaikkal Express is the most convenient train to Trichy from Kochi. It starts at 10 Pm night and reaches by 7. 30 Am in the morning. First class A/c is also available, apart from 2nd A/c and 3 A/c. But better to book very much in advance because of the crowded train irrespective of reason or season, since it is convenient to go to Velankanni another Christian Pilgrimage center.
We started from Kochin airport at 1600 hours on 9th November and heading for Trichy with almost 40 pax on board, reached Trichy around 1710 hours, it was a nice and short trip. Take off was excellent and landing bit rough. Anyway we enjoyed the short trip. We were cleared out by 1745 hours in Trichy and boarded our tour bus to Vellankany, trip lasted almost three to four hours, by 2100 hours we reached Vellankany. Checked in Park Inn around 2145 hours.
I had booked in advance to my travel to Trichy. I had booked a ticket in 3rd A/C and got it confirmed well in advance. Nice companion passengers were there most of them on a pilgrimage to Vellankanni. The only disappointment is that this train starts at 22:05 hours. This could have been pre-scheduled to 8 PM. This would help for a nice sleep. Also when it starts by 8 Pm it will reach the destination by 6 Am the next morning.
