By train: The nearest rail head is Salem Junction (35 km) By car: There are good roads connecting Yercaud to various places in South via. Salem. It is 358 km from Chennai (via. Tindivanam) 222 km from Bangalore (via. Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem - Yercaud) . It will take approx 5hrs to drive. One day trip is sufficient from Bangalore. Start early morning reach yercaud around 9 am , spend the whole day and start from yercuad around 4pm. It is enough. Only thing is you will not be able to see the falls as it will take time trek. 190 km from Coimbatore (via. Avinashi) 163 km from Trichy (via. Namakkal) 271 km from Madurai (via. Karur) 80 km from Mettur (via. Toppur) The Yercaud boat house provides an ample opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of the hilly terrain through boat riding which one shouldn't miss when visiting Yercaud. The boat riding is available for minimal costs. You can also do 'Dirt Biking' in a place very near from Grange Resorts. It is around 4 kms from the lake. Take the road to Pagoda point from Anna Park and it is carried out next to the T junction to the right. It is indeed an adventurous experience. There are different tracks available for the Dirt Biking and all of them are available at different rates. Rs 100 is charged for the basic ride and Rs 400 for a detailed one.It has fair varieties of Dirt biking bikes including one for kids.

Train-bus combo works fine here. If from Bangalore catch the Bangalore - Coimbatore Intercity 6.15am; in Salem at 10.30 am. Outside the Station you can get the bus No.13 -frequency 10 mts- to Salem Main Bus stand. From here you have a bus every 20 mts to Yercaud. Sit in the very front seat next to the driver or on the leftside of bus on way up and right side on way down for a good view. Do avoid the Autos in Salem your holiday might suddenly be not so cheap! And note: in Yercaud, the place shuts down by 9.30 pm. Check out the Pool faclities offered by hotels here as they might not be 'currently functional'.

Yercaud - A leisure destination

In case travelling by own vehicle, I would say the roads are good to reach Yercaud and within Yercaud some caution needs to be taken care. Hair pin bends are a pleasure to drive and do stop at some of them to get a view of Salem city. Carrying an umbrella is also recommeded as it might rain anytime. Do not forget to carry some wollens in case you are travelling with a kid.

From Bangalore it wouldn't take more than 4hrs to reach, thanks to the awesome roads.You can travel straight via Hosur-Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-(bye-pass)-Salem-Yercaud (roughly 235kms). Leave on a Saturday morning. AnandBhavan on the way after Krishnagiri is a nice place to have your lunch. Reach Yercaud by afternoon. By the time you finish the view points, there would be the Sunset welcoming. Do rest of the activities the next day and wrap up by 5pm to reach Blore by 10pm
