Since, Mount Abu does not have an airport that's why roadways are the best way to travel from Udaipur to Mount Abu. Even Mount Abu does not have its own railway station. Abu Road is almost 13 km away from Mt Abu as it is considered as nearest railway station though; direct train services are not accessible from Udaipur.

We were told by our taxi driver and manger from hotel that there is only one bus that goes from Udaipur to Mount Abu in the morning. So we books two tickets. In the morning we had to wait for almost two hours and then a surprise! We were asked to adjust on the single sleeper. How a person of 6 ft and another person will fit in a single sleeper. These people are bad. We were fighting as we had paid for two seats. We had no choice but board the bus. Had a difficult time sitting for 4-5 hours.
My only suggestion is please confirm you travel agent thrice that you are not cheated or go by taxi.
That journey was pleasant. I like it because the bus operator was friendly in behaviour and that fellow understood the situation. Nice driving by bus driver, always maintains and drives in balance condition, no jerk, always drive in smooth way. Stopped at a nice place and travellers enjoyed that dhaba which was marvellous. I liked it.
Well, to start with, I would say we should start early at around 9 Am in the morning so that we can reach Mount Abu at the time of check-in. The route we should take it NH 76. This is excellent road and rains have made the journey even more awesome. We reached Mount Abu at around 12. Checked in at Hotel Royal Palace. Very nice budgeted hotel, with excellent food quality. We then went to Nakki Lake, (The shops en-route, must visit, excellent Rajasthani Dresses and handicraft items are very tempting). Boating at Nakki Lake is a must do. Then, we went to Dilwara Temple. An amazing temple, quite well maintained. Gurushikhar Ji Temple is 18 Kms from Mount Abu, don't ever think to miss it if you really want to take pleasure of this hill station. Overall a very good journey. Recommend everybody to go to Mount Abu if you are in Rajasthan.
Things to Keep in Mind :
Do not eat anything or eat very light when you are going to Mount Abu because the route to Mount Abu wont let you settle at all. You wont be able to sit straight as the roads are not straight at all. Keep yourself busy viewing this beautiful scenery while going to Mt. Abu so that you don't have to think about the route and then you can comfortably reach the destination.
Always carry an umbrella if you are going in Monsoons, because most of the places you will have to walk.
I usually prefer travelling by my own car. Last monsoon season I planed a road trip with my two friends by car, Udaipur to Mount Abu. Mount Abu is a popular hill station in the Aravalli Range in Rajasthan. It was a wonderful experience I would like to share. At 11 am we leave Udaipur. It was a 170 KM distance approx 3. 30 hrs require. It was a rainy day. Excellent road condition NH 76 a four lane highway with lots of dhabas. When we reach Abu Road rain will start with fogs it adds more fun. Overall, a wonder full experience just like MANALI or SHIMLA type.
At last I would like to say anyone who wants great road trip experience with comfort. Take leave from your busy schedule and do road trip Udaipur to Mount Abu in monsoon season. But carry raincoat or umbrella and a good camera for your wonderful life time memory.
It's well-maintained highway, hardly took 2.5 hours to cover 200 km along with ghat sections. All road was pretty maintained with almost 3 toll on the way. There was hardly any good hotels to have food, so we carried our working lunch along. Night travel should be avoided since its scary to be on a highway where hardly any moving vehicle.
