The nearest airports will be Varanasi, Lucknow and Kanpur. The trains are very well connected to the city from all across the country. The city has four railway stations. By road it takes 3 hours from Varanasi, 5 hours from Lucknow and 4 hours from Kanpur. Bargain hard with the riksha and while shopping. During winters Allahabad can get quite chilly so carry lot of warmers. Beware of these auto and rikshaw drivers at the train station as they try and charge you insanely and also at times pick up your bag without your permission so be alert.

Carry sufficient warm clothings, especially persons from tropical climate regions. Try to avoid crowded places on bathing days ( full moon day and new moon day).

Allahabad is very well-connected with all the major cities of India, and you get direct trains from almost all major cities.It is not, however, served by any major airlines.If it is your first visit, do engage a guide, though it is always better if you take tips from a local friend or acquaintance,if you have one. Let me clarify that Allahabad is not the destination for those whose idea of a holiday is to visit night clubs and discos; they will do well to choose other destinations!
