"I booked my stay at..."

  • Posted Aug 22, 2011
I booked my stay at this resort for the August Independence weekend a long time back. Had heard a lot about this resort and was expecting it to be a good stay. We reached the resort early in the morning at about 6. A cab sent by Club Mahindra picked us up and took us to the resort. We were met with smiling faces. The check in was an absolute breeze. Very quick. Just gave them my ID proof and confirmation voucher, filled the check in form and off we were to our room. We stayed at the Barbadas block in room no.2127(i think). To get to this room, we had to go down 2 floors and on the way, we all were wondering is this some kind of basement room. All our doubts disappeared the moment we saw the room. Apparently, this building is on the slopes of a very small hill and the backyard door opens to a lot of greenery where you can enjoy a good walk. Any higher floor would get you just a balcony. This was fantastic. The room was simply lovely. We had booked a 1 bedroom unit for 4. It had 1 toilet with 2 entry points, 1 from the hall and the other from the bedroom. The kitchen was stocked with tea powder, sugar, coffee powder etc. It also had a mini refrigerator and a microwave to make maggi and heat food. Both the hall and the bedroom had a television with cable. There was a room heater in the bedroom. Also if required, one can utilize the security box in the room to safeguard valuables. The room was pretty big and 5 of us stayed there easily with an extra bed. There are several restaurants in this resort. Although i did not taste the food at every restaurant, I heard it was pretty good. The vegetarian restaurant on-site was Mercara. Really did not bother eating there. There are a couple of cafes and a Planters Club where one can enjoy a good drink. There is a games room where one can play table tennis, carroms, chess and checkers. These are available for free. There is also a small corner for toddlers to enjoy. Apart from that there is the famous play station consoles for which you need to pay and play. You can also play badminton for free. Only thing is it is outdoors and if it is windy, the fun part is lost. There is another games room where we can play snooker, billiards and pool. It costs Rs.100 for the hour. There are also a couple of video games and air hockey. All ranging between Rs.20-Rs.70. There is also a volleyball court here. Then there is the adventure valley. Personally my favourite. There are several activities here. Some of them involve riding a cycle on a rope which is tied from the base to the top of a tree. Walking on a single rope. Crossing a battered hanging bridge and several others. As dangerous as it sounds, it is very safe and you are monitored by experts who ensure your safety. If you choose to go for 1 activity, it costs Rs.150. Or you could take a package of 5 which costs you Rs.600. I suggest you go for the latter. We were 5 so we asked for another extra activity for free since we took the package. They happily obliged. We took the activity where we hang from a rope using our hands and slide right across to the ground which was real good fun. Everybody got a turn for free. There is the "Shop" onsite where you can buy your necessities such as soap, shampoo, maggi, juice chocolates etc. It just like a provision store. Every item is sold at MRP plus 10% which is not that bad considering the standards of the resort. The food here is quite expensive and if you opt for room service, it takes about 45 minutes for the food to arrive. We were not too bothered about this as the in-house dining representative made it very clear as to how long it would take. Did not make any false promises and let us down. The service was brilliant and the house keeping ensured our room was cleaned every time we went out and came back. House-keeping is free but does not involve cleaning dishes. Cleaning dishes cost another Rs.50. We didnt mind that either. There is Wi-Fi at the reception. People using data cards, dont bother as there is no network. We tried Tata Photon as well as MTS. I think Airtel is the only connection which works there. Anyways it was a brilliant stay and I would suggest this resort to anybody and everybody.

Best Experience: The room was awesome, the service outstanding, activities and facilities were brilliant. Food was tasty. A very relaxed stay where everything happened to just fall in place. This place can be visited by families, couples and friends. It has something for every kind of traveler and there is also fixed sight-seeing trips organized for which one can contact the reception. There are 2 swimming pools onsite and we went swimming at 2 AM when it was closed. The water was freezing. The officials at Club Mahindra were kind enough to let us enjoy that swim for about an hour in spite of the pool being closed. We also enjoyed the late night walks at the resort. Overall a very well planned and beautiful resort.

Worst Experience: Not a bad experience as such, but the only problem was that this resort is about 5kms from the city. So every time we had to go to the city, cost us Rs.250 by cab hired from Club Mahindra. And this was for 2 hours. Indica Non-AC. Food was kind of expensive. But this is really not a bad experience. All of us really enjoyed a lot and will go back sometime for sure.

"It was the most memorable..."

  • Posted Aug 10, 2011
It was the most memorable experience we ever had...it was really worth the effort taken to go there and i would surely look forward to go back again and again

Best Experience: the resort is like a greenland..lush green and misty atmosphere makes the air so pure that you instantly feel so fresh and active. The main highlight is the greenery in the resort, surely it deserves the best ecotel award or something like that. Also, the security at the resort is excellent considering the number of female staff there, you dont feel worried taking your family there..no rowdies, no drunken youths, all genuine families.

Worst Experience: only bad experience i can think of is reaching coorg from mangalore station, there are two options , one is ksrtc buses which cost around 200 rupees per person and other is a private cab which costs 2500 rupees. there isnt anything in the middle like volvo or something for 500-600 rupees, the state buses are state buses after all.

Coorg is a fantastic place. Club Mahindra is located in a very scenic location and has one of the best facilities we had till date. Accomodation was execllent, food was great and service was beyond compare. I would recommand this place for sure.

Best Experience: Studio appartments were very nicely located and furnished.Food was amazingly great be it north indian, south indian or chinese dishes, you wouldnt stay hungry for sure. Also their staff was very curteous and helpfull, they have taken care of small things to make the stay a memorable one.
