Ibbani Cadu Estate, Madikeri
Ibbanibelavadi Boikeri post
The drive to Coorg was decided in a day on a long weekend (Diwali) of October, 2014. The hastily transpired tour meant that we would face 'No room' from most of the resorts/ homestays we would enquire about. We were determined not to stay in a 'city hotel' as that would defeat the purpose of a relaxed vacation. We eventually stumbled upon Ibbani Cadu homestay, which is 6 km from Madikeri city and 16 km from Kushalnagar. First impression: True to its name, Ibbani Cadu is amidst a coffee-plantation and early morning mist engulfs the forest that it is overseeing. It is perched on top of a small high ground and the hotel looks into the nearby coffee plantations. The road to the homestay is so narrow that leaves/ branches from both side of the passage would get into your car if you leave the panes open. Amenities/ core review: Although it is officially a homestay, Ibbani Cadu quite a luxurious stay. The rooms are well appointed, tastefully, they are big, spacious and squeaky clean. The rooms have large LED television, with full suite of Airtel HD channels. The toilets are provided basic things, a soap, body shampoos, clean towels. One jug of water will be in the room. But if you are skeptic like me, you would take your own bottled water. One down thing is there is no free WiFi, so to stay connected carry your own network. The view from the balcony of the front facing rooms looks over the coffee plantation, the air is crispy and the overall ambience is very relaxed. The stay exudes a sense of classy taste everywhere, furniture, cutlery, wall-colours - everything is a class apart. Not just another expensive shiny hotel. Apart from the rooms it has a common dining hall, a drawing room, two cabinets full of books you can rent in the basement and lot of empty spaces in front. The stay would arrange for plantation walk on your request for a sum of INR 600 per group (up to 10 people). But you have to inform one day prior for such a walk. It is a bit of a challenge to get children engaged outdoors as there is no specific activities designed for them. Service: The service in Ibbani Cadu is surprisingly professional for a homestay. It is a tightly and well run place. No kid business there. Room service is very swift and honest. 6-8 people man the crew (cook, waiting, room service, cleaning works). The room we checked in were housed by a guest just one hour prior (we checked in around 12 noon) and still it was clean and well smelling. Not a thing out of place. The food is decent, I won't say it is out of the world. But the standard fare (veg-non veg buffet) has a mix of south and north Indian dishes and one serving is good for two adults. The kitchen people are very cordial and instantly included some north Indian dishes in the buffet on our request. Overall, the 200/ 300 buffet per head is value for money, imo. Apart from the standard fare they would fry you things like chicken, pork ribs if you can inform them 3-4 hours prior (that would give them time to drive their jeep down to Madikeri for shopping the animal/ bird). Pakora/ Coffee don't take that much time though. One let down is they don't stock any soft drinks. And no alcohol is served, you have to fetch these yourself from Madikeri. How to manage a stay: The best room, in my opinion in Robusta on ground floor. It has two king-sized beds for some reason and a brilliant balcony view (the owners themselves avail of this room when they visit the property). For booking call them and they would want you to deposit 50% of the booking amount in their SBI bank amount for booking confirmation. The room rates are 3000-4000 INR for a night. Amazingly reasonable in the region, I can assure you. Closing lines: In a nutshell it is a homestay with professional touch all around. Its location smells of coffee everywhere, but at the same time the popular spots in Madikeri is just a 6 km drive away. If you are up for a relaxed vacation also, this is the ideal space. If you are not looking a lot of physical activities, this is the place to be in.
The perfect blend of a Homestay Experience with professional quality service / hospitality, in the midst of the plantations, more than 2 km away from any kind of traffic or roads. The location is perfect. 2 km drive into the woods. The house is surrounded by tall trees and short coffee plants - and winds blow all day making a sound of a waterfall. The campfire, the food, are really good. The food is lip smacking and fresh. They even serve lemongrass tea on request - which is the freshest. The rooms are HUGE, 2 kingsize double beds in each room, with HD TV & airtel HD connection, a good bathroom with 24 hrs hot water. Kids friendly. They have some rabbits too. The hospitality by the Manager Miss Dhanya was worth a mention. She ensured all the requests for change of rooms, food, check-in/checkout are hassle free. The estate visit was also memorable, with a guide accompanying us for a 1 hr trek, where we saw a small deer too. There is an artificial lake / pond made which is so peaceful and fresh to visit. Overall - a heavenly experience and probably the place where I will be visiting and staying everytime I go to Coorg.
Travellers , there's no word to describe this awesome place. This is one of the best places where I have stayed so far. True to it's name , the place delivers as Promised!!! Situated amidst Coffee Estate , away from main land, this place is a perfect destination to rejuvenate and re-energise yourself. The moment you take the deviation from the main road, the long unwinding road with lush greenery , chirping voice of the birds will surely take your heart forever. The place is as it is picturised, the stay is perfect. It delivers exactly as promised. The hospitality is perfect, Madam Dhanya really requires a mention, she made sure all things are right and manages the entire team well. She caters to the need of the stay well whether it is to food or other matters. There are maybe around 5 rooms. All the rooms are spacious and well-maintained. It is worth the money. More than the money, it feels to be at home amidst nature .The birds chirp instead of the mobile phones waking you up in the morning. The breeze , the nature will leave you spell bound. The building is designed in a good way as you have balcony facing the nature whichever room you stay. Suggestion: 1. Preferably stay in rooms where both the window and the balcony opens to the forest view. 2. Take a stroll in the coffee plantation and you will feel rejuvenated. 3. Enjoy the hospitality of the staff, they are too good. 4. Breakfast is simple but its worth healthy. Enjoy it with a view of the nature, 5. Do inform the staff/madam if anything is required , they are ready to help you always with a smile. 6. Simply laze around the breeze , place rejuvenates you. 7. And I must mention, the rooms are provided with all the BASIC facilities. Double Cot, 24 hrs hot water, TV with DTH connection, Wi-Fi ,Mosquito repellent, it has all. It's all positive, positive place with positive people will leave you more positive nature:). We felt relaxed, energised when we left this place even though we just stayed for a day and we were bowled out by this place and hospitality. It's really a stay WORTH! It's worth to stay for 2-3 days if you want to escape the mad rat race of a city's life. Stay at least once a lifetime!!!! PS: Booking is through ON-LINE only. Enjoy the stay !!!
Check-in and check-out facility was not delayed. Outer look of the hotel was okay but inner look was average. Room was spacious and pillow and other furnishing were tidy. AC, TV, geyser and other basic amenities were available there and functioning properly. Any scenic view was not available from the room window. Staff of the hotel was cleaning the room regularly. I traveled there by own car with my family for outing in the month of October. Staff behaviour was fine and they gave on time services. Location wise, the hotel was located outside the city and also far from the transportation. Surrounding of the hotel was okay-okay. Food facility was available there with North and South Indian food. Quality and taste of the food was fine. Both varieties were available there veg and non-veg but price wise, the food was costly. Nothing was available in activities. Sightseeing trip was managed by our own. Parking facility was available there. Hotel was costly according to the facilities. I can not recommend this hotel to other travellers. There should be many improvements like food quality, appearance, etc.
We (Family and Friends) a group of nine had been here in the last week of December 2015 and glad we did. Extremely spacious, airy, clean rooms and bathrooms, made the stay very comfortable. The dining area is the highlight, with a beautiful view (it being overlooking the coffee estate), and has an attached recreational area cabinet filled with books with lounge chairs making a perfect reading nook, carom board and chess boards too are available. The place is so secluded, all one hears is the trees rustling and birds chirping. The people who run the place are extremely courteous, prompt and helpful. Including the manager Ms. Dhanya. The food may not be the best you can get, but its served hot with lots of love. The only thing one should be warned about is the road that leads to the estate is not in a very good shape. Its too narrow and not properly tarred. But once you get there, you won't feel like going anywhere. Its a perfect getaway from the city noises :)
