Indira Gandhi Zoological Park

Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is one of the largest zoological parks in Andhra Pradesh. The park is named after Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India. It covers an area of around 625 acres and is surrounded by the Eastern Ghats on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on the fourth side. The park is also surrounded by the Kambalakonda Reserve Forest and is inhabited by various species of birds and animals. There are more than 80 species of fauna and avifauna in the park.

Animals such as Rhesus monkey, mandrill, tiger, puma, olive and sacred baboon can be seen here. Other animals living in the park are panther, lion, jaguar, wolf, hyena and jackal.

The park shelters python, tortoise, monitor lizard, snake, elephant, bison, spotted deer and sambar. The prominent avifauna seen here include pied hornbill, love birds, painted stork, peacock, duck, cocktail and macaw.

A special mini train runs within the park premises. Tourists can reach the park through buses that are operated by both Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and the Tourism Department.
