"It is like travelling back..."

It is like travelling back in time - exquisitely carved Jharokhas, mirror and wall painting in the small Durbar hall area - roof top restaurant looks up to the lighted ramparts of the fort - (not so clean alleys in the daylight, though!). Location is very good and the staff quite helpful. Nothing much to do inside the hotel - but its a stone\'s throw from the vibrant handicraft and fabric markets and about a km from the fort. Quaint, pretty, not crowded - loved it!

Best Experience: Our room got automatically upgraded to a suite as they ran out of standard double!

Worst Experience: Dinner got quite delayed because staff was short - handling a buffet meal for a large group staying there.(but that\'s how we got the room upgrade - so cant complain!)

"we vvisited the desert city..."

  • Posted Jan 12, 2007
we vvisited the desert city of Jaisalmer & it was one of the best place that we visited in our entire Rajasthan tour. The Hotel was also very nice in all respects & the visit to Sam sand udnes was just amazing.

Best Experience: The hotel had excellent heritage look . In fact one of the tourist spot is right within the hotel premises. The movie Sarfarosh was shot here & the hotel staff extensively took us around to shpw the various locations where the film was shot & explained the nuances of the whole place.

Worst Experience: Fortunately we had no worst experience in this hotel

"Overall quite dissatisfactory. Quite a..."

Overall quite dissatisfactory. Quite a lot of effort need to be undertaken in terms of Quality of Service & infrastructure to stand upto the standards of ITC Welcomheritage. If one is looking for simple boarding / lodging for the night its OK, but do not expect anything above.

Best Experience: Only redeeming point is you get to stay inside the palace premises.

Worst Experience: The entrance of the Hotel is very nondescript. One has to really put some effort to find it. They are yet to have a generator backup - so pls plan your stay when the max temp is less that 25 deg Cel. I had two very uncomfortable hrs in the midafternoon when no AC was running due to power outage. Food is avg minus. Service can challange a tortoise. Overall a less than satisfactory stay. One gets disappointed especially because the expectations have been raised because of ITC Welcomheritage brand. Even though was booked for 3 nights package, had to check out after first night stay.

"Worst experience. We had booked..."

  • Posted Dec 1, 2005
Worst experience. We had booked 1 month in advance and got confirmation from WelcomHeritage Group. We booked for 2 days for 3 double rooms. When we reached there, we were told that they have booked our room in another hotel for one day and next day we would be shifted to Mandir Palace. The other hotel was inferior to Mandir Palace. In addition to that, hotel staff has done entry in hotel register for two days and done false signature of mine which I have remarked in hotel register. If you want the proof of hotel confirmation I can give you all the documentary proof.

Worst Experience: as given in comments box.

"Jaisalmer - The marvelous land..."

  • Posted Nov 9, 2005
Jaisalmer - The marvelous land of sand, sunsets and structures. One of the most beautiful and tourist friendly places that I have visited in India. Unfortunately or fortunately it’s not on the map of the regular Indian tourist. I had visited Jaisalmer at the end of October which is just the beginning of the tourist season and hence had the luxury for scouting around for other rooms even when I had one booked at Mandir Palace. In peak season it does not make sense to visit Jaisalmer without confirmed bookings! Mandir Palace is as the name suggests a beautiful palace, part of which is still used as a residence by the rajah. The mandir part comes from the ornately carved 5 storied tower which is visible from the whole city. This palace is centrally located and has beautifully carved walls and jharokas which people come in visit. In terms of its presentation it’s more of a residence hotel in the sense that it doesn’t have a standard looking reception. But that doesn’t mean that the level of service is low. The people are very courteous and ever eager to help. There a couple of rooms have been retained in the ‘heritage’ style. Though beautiful at they look and smell like a museum and might not be everybody’s idea of a hotel room. I too picked up their regular room which was very well appointed and comparable to rooms in any good 3-4 star hotel. The food at the restaurant which serves Indian, Chinese and Continental is good though the service is a bit slow. Over all staying here was a very good experience and is certainly recommended
