The Mysore Palace, the original home of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III was burned down in a fire and the construction of the new Amba Vilas Mysore Palace started in 1897. Until its completion in 1912, the royal family lived in the Jaganmohan Palace which was built as an alternate retreat in 1861. Many important events have taken place in the pavilion of this palace including the first session of the Legislative Council of Mysore State.
