Jaipur food, sight-seeing and shopping options
The City Palace has a sub-set palace called the Sheesh Mahal. Now, one would think that the city would be delighted to throw open the doors of Sheesh Mahal to visitors – after all, how many cities in India have a palace (Mahal) made of glass (Sheesh)? But alas and alack, I realized I was the naïve one. Sheesh Mahal has an entry fee of Rs.2,500 per person!!!! Yes, you read it right, Rs.2,500 per person. I fairly fainted (and not just because of the heat) when I reached the entry to this exalted palace. And yes, you guessed it right – we turned back. No palace is worth Rs.2,500 per person. I’d rather go to a nearby hill station for a weekend holiday in that much money. So, that was that.
There is another attraction that Jaipur boasts of called Hawa Mahal. It is a palace that was made for the royal ladies of Jaipur. In the days of the purdah, when they were forbidden from showing their faces to the outside world of men, they congregated in this Hawa Mahal to watch processions that took place on the streets below them. The palace was under construction and coupled with the scorching heat which made sightseeing a pain, I didn’t quite enjoy the Hawa Mahal. There are other tourist attractions too in the city which any of the rickshaw drivers or tourist cabs, whom you can hire for the day, will take you to. There is also a prepaid city tour that you can take from Hotel Gayatri (I think). Do visit the new part of Jaipur which has lovely bungalows and a peaceful air above it.
There are n number of hotels to cater to all pockets in Jaipur, so you can take your pick.

Hotel Review of Gold Palace & Resorts, The
Comments: We chose this lovely resort as we did not want to go to the city.We wanted to relax and swim and there's nothing more perfect than this place for that. The drive from Delhi is a dream--even I drove for 80kms or so after long.
My husband & I are not very fond of Indian cuisine...we got delicious grilled, bakes and pastas made to our taste. There were plenty of freah salad and fruits for the health freaks. The buffet was excellent too.The kids gorged on delicous icecream with chocolate sauce specially made. The chef made a special Rajasthani dish in the buffet after we asked for it as well. The staff was courteous and very helpful.Rooms were large and comfortable.Besides swimming, one could cycle, play chess, carrom & ludo on huge tables,or hit the gym.In the evenings one could play cricket in their huge sprawling lawns. There was nothing which was not taken care of. In fact my husband extended our stay for one more day and we loved every moment. I only wish their outdoor Restaurant Corbett was functional this time of the year --it is beautiful.
I would recommend it to any Delhi-ite for a short break. if you still desperately want to go to Jaipur its hardly 10 kms away. Its worth a visit let me tell you
Best Experience: Best part was even though the Resort was completely full because of conferences --about 2-3 huge groups,as well as large no of foreign tourists thronging the place--from Koreans to the French,it was so large and well spread out that we had our own space through out! This sums it all up.
Worst Experience: The Room Service needs to improve we have to keep asking for the coffee and tea sachets to be refilled!
The EPBAX System kept us awake all night as it kept ringing by mistake--but it was taken care of next day
The water fountain in the front lawn smells...that needs a bit of looking into.

Overall good experience, except for the poor airconditioning in common areas like coffee shop, bar, lunch room, lobby, front desk etc....
