Bhatkal is one of the oldest places of Muslim residential areas in India. According to the inscriptions, the Jamia Masjid was built in 851 Heigra. However, in recent years a dome of gold was installed which gave its present name of Chinnada Palli by the local people.
Jamia Masjid can accommodate around 10,000 people in all its three floors and basement. There is an adjacent office building that houses the Muhakma-e Shariyah that assists to settle all kind of disputes among people.
