Joes Home Stay Reviews (12)
It was wonderful experience. Very tasty homemade food was served. The rooms are neat and clean. Homestay is at the midst of the nature and close to all the tourist places. And we where able to save lot of time. Beautiful waterfalls which really cherished us very good. Surrounding of the hotel was really awesome, its just pure nature.
We drove down from Bangalore on the long weekend in October and reached around late morning. We got a very warm welcome by Mr. Sudi and were escorted to our room which were very nicely done. The room faced the mountains and it was green as long as as my eyes could span. The Dinner served was (Yummm chicken legs) my god are to die for. The food reflected the warmth in the hospitality.
It was very good and a very nice property. Facilities that they were providing were very good. Surrounding of the hotel was really awesome, its just pure nature. Service qualities were on average but every other thing like cleanliness was very good. Very neat and clean hotel. Food was also very good in taste and of good quality.
We 5 of a family member planned for a 2 night stay, booked 2k. Surrounding was quite appealing. But the quality of the house interiors were horribly disappointing. We were unable to digest that we paid such a hefty amount for this $%^and home stay. There are 2 floors in this house. Ground floor has 3 rooms while 1st floor has 2 rooms and a balcony. I don't know about the ground floor. But in the 1st floor there was no power backup, no TV, low intensity CFLs, the rooms are very very old with a tiled roof. Few beams support them, unsure how strong are they. And the bathroom, must say Ehh! The door was just a sheet made up of a sort of laminate, broken at the bottom. The bathroom was spacious but leaking at all times, the wash basin tap runs w/o a break unless the knob at the bottom gets closed. And we 5 were not all in those 2 rooms, accompanied by strange large sized poisonous insects which flew in, thanks to the non stop rain that night. To our luck, there was a power cut. But I wont deny that the food was somewhat good and the attendant was also well mannered, very cooperative. But due to these all nightmares, we had to cut short our trip and we came back on the 2nd day itself. The blame goes to the tariff for such a house. There was no other option nearby but Tarikere which was approx. 10 km away from this place. Tariff - per person 1100 per night with food.
I have been to many hill stations in TamilNadu,Kerala and Karnataka . I never had a satisfaction because mostly all the hillstations were exploited by tourist and there is always crowd or sometimes the hill station will lack basic amenities . I had this non-ending search for a perfect destination .Finally,I heard about Chikmagalur from my colleague. I told that to my friends and we were waiting for a perfect set of holidays . Atlast , That happened on September'2013 during the Ganesh Chadhurthi Holidays . We are a group of six guys, We started from Pondicherry to Chikmagalur in a Innova. Two of my friends shared the Driver seat and rest of us enjoyed the ride. so we reached chikmagalur , went to Mulliangiri and then we took to kemmanagundi . Since we dint pre-book we started searching for Homestays or Cottages to stay. The difference between homestays /Cottages in chikmagalur and the others at other hill stations in kerala , Tamilnadu was that the cottages here come at a complete package and they charge on per head basis where as the places where we visited earlier were like A-la-Carte and that was very cheaper compared to wat they offer at Chikmagalur with over 1500/person/day. So atlast we found a better deal at Joe's homestay at 1000/head and with satisfactory reviews , we chose Joe's homestay . Initially , We were a bit doubtful about the place . But It was a huge farmland of flowers around with a single cottage in the middle of the farm . That gave us a lot of privacy which we wanted. Literally , we could enjoy the maximum with no questions asked. There was no worrry to park the car as it was completely fenced . And this place is very beautifully placed nearer to all the Tourist spots at Kemmanagundi. we had a picturesque scenary facing the shanthi falls flow in a distant . There was a huge place to play whatever outdoor activity you want to do. The Cottage was a two storied one . we took the first floor . There were two rooms and totally it had 8 Single cots. There was a TV with Dth in one room and both rooms had attached bathrooms and a common place like a balcony . Hot water for bathing was served on request and it was boiled with Logwood stove which was nostalgic and different for us having been experienced with electric geysers . The furnitures and amenities were not excellent but comfortable ones . But thats what you need to experience the nature and climate there. There were few Trophies of Deer heads with antlers which gave a scary effect which made the stay interesting . There were 2 young chaps as caretakers. They were very friendly and helpful . They also served us as excellent guides as they were well versed in trekking . Then comes the food,. The food was excellent they had arranged for a wonderful cook . The non-veg items were excellent in particular . We had requested for Tamilnadu style pepper rasam instead of Udupi style sweeter rasam , the sambar and also few other dishes. They are kind enough to alter the dishes to our taste. The quantity was also more . My advice to travellers is if u want to enjoy with your friends at budget rate . then this is the place to be. One thing you have to keep in your mind is that there is no ATM nearby and there was only one wineshop which was a little pricey with limited brands. so keep all your cash liquid and carry your own drink . No need to worry abt Fuel station as there is one in the proximity. I would personally choose this place for the next time also.
This hotel met or exceeded our expectations. Room was on 1st floor with view of Kemmannugundi hills and Kallathi falls. Clean, comfortable, friendly staff. A nice 10 acres of land planted with Arecanut, coconut & silver trees. and a very short drive (5 minute) to Kallathi falls ...can't beat it for the price. Stay if possible on the 1st floor we left I read not so good reviews about this hotel but we felt it was good value for money, the location of homestay is superb and excellent homemade food.
Please do not choose this homestay, it was not worth paying and there were no activities. there were no proper Fan running, No hot water, No TV, there were no basic facility available. Food was average and not upto the mark.
