We are just back from one of the most fun filled and fulfilling trips so far. Kali Wilderness Camp. Was it really only 3 days that we spent there ?? They seem to have packed in SUCH a variety of activities into our schedule, we are still having a hangover! What activities? Well, how would you like to have an unforgettable experience of White Water Rafting, watch big sloppy crocodiles from small round boats, ride on an elephant, explore a pitch dark cave in candle light, ride through a thick jungle in open jeep in the night, catch fishes by the river, and finally put up your legs and go to sleep on a hammock by the river We did it all !. Resort: okay, so it's not a fancy starry resort. It is a little rugged but well maintained. You get the option of solid walled rooms and canvas tents. The bathrooms and the rooms/tents are very clean and well maintained. Tents come with almost-posh bathrooms. Tents are set up on elevated platforms. Must be to keep the insects away, but hold on, they'll find their way! When you take a tent, you ask for some adventure, and you will get it! You could stay safe in the walled rooms, but what's life without a dash of adventure! If you are an indoor person, this might not be the resort for you. Other than TT and carrom, there is little you can do inside the resort. You can just lie around in the hammock too I guess. Food: Food is Yummm! They whip up an excellent buffet everyday for b'fast, lunch and dinner. If you have some special needs, they would accommodate it as well (to a certain extent I guess). Service: What I liked best about the resort/package is that we had a informed guide with us all through. You check in and a guide takes over the planning of your stay there. He will tell you the options available and will try to co-ordinate with other groups there. Very friendly people. And that army dress they wear seem to make them more professional and trustworthy! Note that we were a group of 6 adults with 3 kids, all aged below 4! But for the staff there, I doubt if we could have had such a wonderful time. Activities: Like I already mentioned, activities here score a A++. There is a variety of things to do and you will be tempted to do it all. The White Water Rafting and other water sports are not included in the package. Rafting costs Rs1100 per person. There are other water sports like Canoing, Rappelling etc. 2/3 of such activities are packaged together and available for some discount. Pick and plan what you want to do and you would save some money there. If you have a water-proof camera, TAKE IT on rafting! The river winds through such picturesque and uncharted jungle, we felt a loss for not being able to capture it. Conclusion: It is a good place. As simple as that. If you are looking for some adrenaline rush, if you want to do something you have not done before, This is the place. As with everything, going in a group of laminated people would add more to the trip.

The 'Kali Wilderness Camp' is tucked deep into the forest sufficiently far from the mad hustle that characterizes much of small town India. The rooms are well appointed - spacious and tastefully done - each with its own veranda where one can sit in the cane chairs and watch life pass by. With huge trees in the greenery behind the rooms and the majestic Kali flowing a stone's throw away, you can't ask for a better setting to spend a weekend. However, don't let the lazy setting fool you. There's plenty for the strong limb ed and adventure seeking . . There's the obligatory jungle safari late in the evenings and early in the mornings to set you up nicely for what's ahead. Chances of sighting the big cats (leopards and panthers) are slim to say the least. If you are lucky you'll come across a herd of sambhars or the dhols or the bisons. But then expecting to see leopards is like missing the whole point. A 'hila-ke-rakh-de' open jeep ride through the dense jungles with the sunlight streaming in through the trees is an experience in itself. Without question, the best part of a weekend spent at the 'Kali Wilderness Camp' is grade 3 white water rafting on the river Kali. As your rubber dinghy rushes down a rapid, you experience an unprecedented adrenaline rush - especially if you can't swim. During the 9 km circuit the river meanders through virgin forests teeming with wildlife - kingfishers, cormorants, herons and, if you are lucky, crocodiles. You are apprehensive to start with but after you finish the almost 2 hour ride, you are reluctant to get off The camp also offers plenty of other adventure options - mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, trekking - enough to keep you occupied for at least a couple of days. The more adventurous can go camping to uninhabited islands in a nearby reservoir The food is simple and tasty and is had in a special round enclosure called the Ghar'. After the day is done, you can sit around a bonfire - beer in hand - and pretend as if you are the Rajah of Travencore just back after one of his gaming trips. Stories are told and listened to, with generous amounts of exaggeration thrown in, till its time to go to bed. After all there's so much to do the next day.

Awesome hotel with good service & games

Dandeli a place one must visit in their life time. The most beautiful place in India which lets you enjoy the true essence of nature. Hotel was awesome. Room service and the games and the camp and the bonfire provided was good. The river rafting was out of this world, had loads of fun with my cousins. I would suggest anyone I meet to visit this place and hotel. Shopping in Dandeli is also great experience and the tour of the paper mill was left out. Next time I will surely do that .

Comfortable stay with lots of activities

5.9/7
Posted 24 Nov, 2014

I had stayed there with my family for two days and two tents overlooking the river. The stay was very good and comfortable. The place is serene and you feel that you are staying in the lap of nature. We did three safaris and river boating. The guides were very good and informative. The safaris were shared with other guests staying in the camp. For one of the safaris we were also taken to Old Magazine House which was famous for spotting a wide variety of birds. The buffet meals were delicious and there was a huge variety to choose from. In the evening there was provision of tea and snacks post by the safaris.

Excellent location and services

We three friends stayed at the Karnataka Govt. Tourism Dept. Owned and operated by Jungle Lodges Kali Wilderness Camp, Dandeli, Karnataka India We got a tent that had 3 separate beds, as per our request. The tents were spacious, good enough for 3-4 people. Basic bathroom, with a small capacity geyser for hot water for baths. The shower was very slow and there is no booster pump. Hence you will end up using the bucket and a mug to bathe The linen were clean, not smelly The Jungle Lodges Kali Wilderness Camp, Dandeli is just on the banks of Kali river and is excellent place to go for the Karakul boat ride to find some crocodiles sunbathing, lots of natural birds and trees The lodge staff took us for an early morning jungle trip and we could see a lot of wild animals in its natural habitat. We were not allowed to get down from the safari vehicle and we were prisoners in the vehicle while the wild animals roamed freely On another early morning we were taken for a nature walk. We saw lots of trees, plants and the guide explained us the interdependency of these trees/plants with the humans, animals etc. It was very educative The food are freshly cooked and served right in front of us. The Hot Roti, chapati, phulka, hot vegetables, dal, everything was excellent Overall, these 3-4 days were very relaxing, exciting and educative

Overall, good experience & recommendable hotel

4.3/7
Posted 3 Dec, 2014

The location of the hotel was good. I didn't face any difficulty to reach the hotel. The lodge was near to the bus stand. The surroundings were neat, clean and maintained. The special thing about the hotel was near to the river. The service people were helpful, friendly and hygienic. They were quick to attend all the requests. The interior and exterior were good. The paintings, furniture, indoor and outdoor decoration were good. The rooms were okay, but not spacious. It was neat, The pillows, bed sheets and blankets were in clean condition. It was a tent so there were no TV and AC. I get the river view from the tent. The jungle safari and campfire were organized by the hotel. The food was okay. I didn't face any problem in check-in and check-out. The overall, experience was good. I would like to recommend this hotel to other travellers.

Great service but average food

4.3/7
Posted 28 Mar, 2015

I usually prefer any JLR properties as the service is great timely and importantly the safari's are mostly managed by them Coming to the property it's very much in the town, therefore the initial enthusiasm of staying in Wilderness comes down. I booked the tent house facing the river Kali. Sad picture is here because of town proximity. You see the big factories across the river and all the town's building on the other side. The river view open area is not that maintained as the creepers crowed blocking the view from room I am a vegetarian, there isn't any great vegetarian snacks options at the restaurant, so also the food was average not for those who appreciate good tasty food. Safari, morning walk visit to the Syntheri rocks was really nice and so also to the dam and their other property at Dandeli. JLR Coracle boat ride was not that awesome as the water level in the river was low, but we did spot a Crocodile sun bathing and also some nice bird watching. We were lucky to do the Kalir river rafting its an experience I will cherish for a long time. It will make me go back to Dandeli again but may be another resort nearby in the wild People wherever you stay in Dandeli you will have to come to JLR for the safari, etc jungle activities.

This is one of the best properties maintained by Jungle Lodges apart from Devbagh. This was my 2nd visit and I noticed drastic improvement in food quality as well. People are too nice and you will not get a feeling that you are in a Govt managed hotel. Please don\'t go with a great expectation to spot wild animals ... if you are lucky, you may come across a bison, at best! Howver, for bird lovers, Dandeli provides a feast to the eyes (err not to the stomach please)... Enjoy the safri ride for the forest sake and not for the animals ... you can always compensate through avisit to the next door zoo! If you are the adventurous kind, rush for the rafting, else settle for coracle ride! You will get to see umpteen crocodiles from your coracle and you can last there as long as you like and as long as you can hold your breath lest you nautiate with the smell of West Coast Paper Mills sewage ...

The anticipation of visiting a jungle is always very emotional to me. The expectation of seeing the wide-spread verdant area, the animals in their natural surroundings and the fresh air, are very keen. We went by road, which took us about 9hours. We had stayed at other Jungle resort properties so we knew we would be well taken care off. We learnt one thing on this trip that the monsoons are not the time to expect to see too many of the animals. Most are busy taking shelter in the deeper parts of the forest. The Jungle resort had met all our expectations by way of the quality of stay. The staff are very hospitable, the naturalists very knowledgeble, the food is quite good the rooms clean and well-maintained. The naturalists took us to the deeper sections of the forest which is an experience not-forgotten easily. Our imagination ran wild when we saw that the visibility of the undergrowth was only a few metres, the forest is so dense. Its very difficult to spot anything in that thick undergrowth. The overall experience was pleasant, away from the concrete jungle that we live in the cities.

Great food and activities

5.9/7
Posted 22 Nov, 2011

Food was the best part and the way to the destination especially from dharwad to dandeli was horrible. 48 km distance took almost 2 hours drive, and lots of pot holes. Surrounding scenery around the jungle lodges requires special mention, being on the banks of river kali felt close to nature. Jungle safari was good in the scenery aspect and the drivers were excellently cooperative explaining many things during the safari. But, dont go in search of animals as we found deers, one jackal, one peacock and some domesticated animals. It was not difference from any jungle safari i have previously taken including madhumalai or thekadi where i did not find any. The view point in the jungle safari was the best part, and i have not seen such a scenery till date. Coracle ride is good, but is available in many places, sp does not require special mention. Camp fire, was liked by my son the most and we loved the barbeque around it. We missed out on nature walk, trekking and white water rafting due to time constraint. we do plan to go back there.

Good for a stress busting break over an extended weekend. Accomodation is fairly basic and functional; don\'t expect crisp linen, gleaming bathrooms and the works here despite the relatively steep price per person (for such accomodation) charged during the season. Facilities are basic but provide a casual atmosphere so that one can feel relaxed. Service is good considering that it is a \'camp\', so one doesnt really expect to be waited upon like in a star hotel. Activities are well organized with events happening as planned; however the jungle safari in a jeep is a bit of dampener since you dont sight many animals, except for occassional deer and bison if you are lucky.
