Top Reviews of KSTDC Mayura Chalukya
Rooms are pretty good for the budget conscious. More expensive rooms are also available. You need to have your own transport. Good place to nurse a drink. Food is fresh but primitive. You need to cajole the staff to get work done. Pretty snail pace service.
The front office manager was very polite and helpful. We had a pleasant stay, though we were mostly spending time outdoors. No activities or programs inside the hotel or resort - whatever you choose to call it. The food was homely and enough to satisfy your hunger, may not be your taste buds. Don't expect any view from your rooms, as the location is bit inside. The bathroom door of the room we had stayed, had a broken padlock, and one light wasn't working inside. The geyser was working fine but the cold water tap was not working. The exhaust fan was good, but sounded like a generator!!
Booking: Was done on the internet. Karnatakaholidays.net site is user friendly and booking was a breeze. Pre-Check in: Booking confirmation mentioned check-in time as 12 Noon. My train was to arrive at Badami @ 8 am. So, I called their front desk # to inform that I would need an early check-in. Nobody picked the call even after calling few times. However, they did allow me to check in earlier since rooms were available. Check-in: I arrived @ the hotel @ 9.30 am. Check in took 5 minutes. Room: I was given room# 101 in the old block. I felt the room was a little small. But for a family of 2 Adults + 1 child, this is fine (See the pic attached). Some furniture like cabinet door was broken. There is no intercom facility. Bathroom is huge (compared to room size). Bathroom was clean. Geyser was working and hot water was available in the morning. In the afternoon when I tried to switch on the geyser, I saw it wasn't working. I guess they turn off electricity supply to geyser after morning hours. Toilet flush wasn't working. I was a little surprised at such negatives, because the rooms seemed to be renovated recently. The paint and tiles indicated the renovation was done only recently. BTW, they are also building 2 more blocks that has capacity for 12 rooms. Those were almost ready for occupation (See the pic attached). If you are visiting after Sep/2012, try your luck with those rooms. Location: Hotel is @ walkable distance from Bus stand. It is around 4km from train station. You can rent an auto from train station to reach the hotel. Badami caves temples are @ walkable distance too. The hotel is in a quiet place. You may see lot of monkeys in the vast hotel compound. As long as you don't monkey around with them, they are ok. Avoid carrying food in your hand because it may tempt the monkeys. The same tip applies when you visit Badami Cave Temples too. The hotel has lot of open parking space. Restaurant: You get veg and non-veg food. For south Indians, thali is the best bet. Otherwise, choice is limited in the menu. Considering there are no decent restaurants near by, food @ the hotel is your best option. They also serve beer at the restaurant. Room Service: I did not use any, so can't comment. Overall: Typical of any KSTDC hotels, this is value for money hotel. The property has a very good location. As with any government run hotel, you may have to compromise with some minor irritants. This is ones best option in Badami, unless one is ready to pay 2-3 times more for other options.
The hotel was located near to the bus stand. Everything was excellent in the hotel. The location of the hotel was good. The service of the hotel was very nice. The room was neat and clean. All amenities were available in the room. The food was good in the hotel. I would not suggest anything to this hotel.
KSTDC Hotel Chalukya Mayura is decent Govt. Hotel to stay. Good room service and conversant staff. Super deluxe rooms are pretty decent, good cleanliness, spacious, AC and a TV and really nice to stay for shelling out an amount of 2. 5 to 3k. Deluxe room are okay. Not to expect anything same as the earlier one. Hotel as a decent restaurant with a fixed menu for breakfast. Serves drinks during evening. Pretty cool on pocket if you book the rooms through Makemytrip as huge discount make it really economical (60-75% discounted rate).
