Kalakadu

Kalakadu is another famous place located in the Tirunelveli region which is home to the Kalakadu Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary lies on the foothills of the Western Ghats and covers an area of around 223 sq km. The sanctuary is covered with dry deciduous forest and tropical wet evergreen forest.   
 
This sanctuary is inhabited by various animals such as deer, Nilgiri langur, elephant, tiger, sloth bear and sambar. The flying squirrel, common langur, wild dog and bonnet macaque are also found in this region. It is home to a number of birds and reptiles. Trekking can be done here by seeking prior permission from the Forest Department.
