The Kalbhairav Temple in Harihareshwar is devoted to Lord Shiva and is thus, known as the Shiva Temple. Apart from the idol of Lord Shiva, an idol of Kalbhairav is also present in the temple. According to a popular belief, Lord Shiva was the creator of Kalbhairav and rendered him all the ‘mantrashastras’.
In another belief, Bheema, one of the Pandava brothers, divided a huge boulder into two parts as it was restricting the Pandavas entry into the Kalbhairav Temple. The two pieces of boulder can be spotted behind the temple. A festival is held at the site during Mahashivratri.
