This Kalika Mata Temple was built originally in the 8th century as the Surya or Sun temple converted to its present form in the 14th century, it is situated across from Padmini's Palace, on an elevated platform and it is a walled complex as after rebuild this was dedicated to the Goddess Kali an incarnation of Goddess Parvati in angry form. As Sun statue is engraved above the doors of main sanctum, which gives a logical support to its Sun temple earlier. Carving and engravings art work on the temple pillars, ceilings and the doors of the main sanctum are spectacular and confirm its being an ancient temple within the fort.
Many stalls are there at the entrance of soft drinks, coconut water, water etc and one may take camera to take the exterior pictures as main sanctum's pictures are not allowed. Padmini's Palace is just across which may be visited after having an insight of the temple. As the major restoration and additional structural works were significantly done during the Maharana Sajjan Singh's period and Archaeological Department is also working, it has a fair during Navratri and devotees visit in large numbers even from far places. In front of the temple towards east a tank is known as Suraj Kund exists.
