Historical touch |
| |
Kasauli is a small hill station, which is an ideal place for a relaxing vacation. It is idyllic for people who like to keep a distance from other popular and crowded hill stations. Kasauli is a small town in the Solan district in Himachal Pradesh. The British colonial buildings and churches add beauty to this hill station. The world's highest brewery and distillery, the Kasauli Brewery, is located here. Some say that the first settlers in Kasauli were a group of Rajput families who fled from "Rewari"- modern Haryana and settled in lower Himalayan village called Kasul and hence came the name.
Kasauli was said to be one of the favourite summer spots for the British during their rule in India. The buildings and architectures have a striking resemblance to some of the European towns.

Sightseeing highlights |
| |
The whole of Kasauli is filled with sightseeing attractions. Each and every place, whether important or insignificant, has its own uniqueness. One should go to Kasauli with a good pair of walking shoes to enjoy long walks on the Upper and Lower mall and the Gilbert trail.
Hanuman temple on Monkey Point (timing between 9 am to 4 pm) is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Kasauli. The best time to visit Monkey point is 9 am when the sun is not too hot. The trekking includes a steep climb of around 500 meters. The view from the top of the hill is admirable. According to Ramayana, Hanuman came to this hill on the way to his quest to find Sanjivani herbs to save the life of Laxmana.
Gilbert trail on Upper Mall is ideal for long nature walks amidst pine trees. From here one can see Kalka and Chandigarh on a clear day. Sunset Point on Upper mall is romantic. The churches with stained glass were built by the British in European style.
Other than long walks on the mall and Gilbert trail another option is to visit the Kasauli club which offers daily guest membership at Rs 40 per person per day. It has excellent facilities including lawn & table tennis, billiards, etc and a bar and restaurant.

Culinary delights |
The cuisines of Kasauli are more or less similar to other neighbouring North Indian states with a little influence of Tibet. The normal cuisines include rice, maze, barley and spicy non vegetarian dishes. Milk products are also largely used in their cookings. A normal meal includes Dal, Chawal, Subzi and Roti combination, a common find in the North Indian part of the country. A festival meal called 'Dham' is very popular in Himachal Pradesh. |
