The
KauleshwariDeviTemple
is situated on top of Kolhua hill near Hunterganj at a height of 1,575 ft.
The temple complex dates back to the 10th
century and consists of some ruined temples and historical monuments. It is a
popular pilgrim center for Hindus, Buddhists and Jains.
The images of Mahishasuramardini, Trishuladharni
and Kauleshwari Devi made of black stone are worshipped here. A specialty is
the figure of Lord Buddha in meditation posture. On Basant panchami and Ram navmi days, a large
number of pilgrims flock to the hill top for worship.
The trek to the top of Kolhua hill on the temple of Kauleshwari Devi is quite steep and
there are no steps.
