The Kavala Caves
are limestone caves situated at a distance of 25 Km from Dandeli. The Caves
have an interesting way to enter them: after climbing down 375 steps one
reaches the Cave entrance, and then has to crawl 40 ft deep through winding,
narrow tunnels to catch a glimpse of the naturally formed Shivalinga. Candles
are available outside the cave but it is advisable to carry a torch while going
inside the Cave. It is said that these caves have been inhabited since
prehistoric times and in present times, was home to many snakes and bats.
All those
who have been to the Kavala
Caves say that it must
definitely be visited and must not be missed at any cost while on a trip to
Dandeli. The naturally formed Shivalinga is a miracle of nature and should not
be missed.
While visiting, explore the caves thoroughly
and on the trek back, enjoy a truly breathtaking view of the River Kali winding
through the Valley below. On the next trip to Dandeli, do try to pay a visit to
the Kavala Caves, it is definitely a highly
recommended destination for a unique yet subconsciously spiritual experience. |
