About Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls, situated at an altitude of 4,500 ft, is one of the popular tourist places of Mussoorie. It is a beautiful waterfall, which falls from a height of about 40 ft from a mountain. This fall is located on way between Dehradun-Mussoorie path.

John Mekinan, in 1835, had developed this place as a tourist destination due to its panoramic surroundings and views. The name of the place is derived from Camp-tea, the place where Britishers organised tea parties during their ruling period.

The falls is one of the largest among five down rushing falls, which flows down through various rocks and finally enters into the plains. While going 12 km downhill and after crossing the Aglar River, tourists can also reach the Yamuna River. Further, the site is also popular for swimming and fishing activities.

The place is visited for taking bath under the falls and for enjoying the beautiful views of surroundings. Tourists can also reach a beautiful pond while climbing a few steps in the flow of the stream. Located at the footsteps of the falls, the pond is a huge enclosure formed naturally by the stream.

Tourists can easily reach the destination by hiring taxis or buses, which regularly operate from Mussoorie as well as Dehradun.

John mckinnon has founded this place as a picnic spot for the britishers, they use to organise camp here for tea only. This place is around 13 kilometres from Mussoorie, very beautiful and good to enjoy the bath in the fall.

"Nice place to visit once" new review

I like this waterfall but unfortunate the local administrations are not taking care properly hence the place is deteriorating its natural beauty.

Traveller should go by ropeway or by stairs. Although stairs are little exhausting.

"Decent water fall but too overcrowded for my liking" new review

  • 4.0/7
  • Posted 4 weeks ago
Kempty fall is most visited place from mussorie. It is nice place to spend some time with family in water fall. But it is too overcrowded and commercialised. Lots of issue right from parking your vehicle to reaching the fall. Good food options there.

"On weekends it is extremely overcrowded" new review

  • 4.0/7
  • Posted 4 weeks ago
If you ever were in Iceland or Norway you will not be impressed by this waterfall, but if you have never been there, you better go in the morning, because after a lunch-time there are huge traffic-jams on the road. Accommodation and restaurants are available there. On weekends it is extremely overcrowded. Go in the morning if don't want to spend hours in traffic-jam.

The kempty falls is one of the main attractions in Mussoorie and it also has quick ropeway service available for Rs. 100 per pax roundtrip. Its windy and chilly here due to flowing waterfalls.

"This is the place to be"

  • 7.0/7

This is probably the best place in Mussoorie and if you want your trip to end on a high note, this is the place to be. The tickets to the place sells out pretty quickly so keep an eye on that. The place holds every necessary thing you would need, it also has rope-line trolleys for your convenience, therefore no worries as to what to bring or not. Other than the fall, you should also explore the stairs leading to the origin of the fall and have a little trekking experience too. So, just reach there and take a dive of your lifetime.

"Very costly but filthy place"

  • 2.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
But yes if you are planning for Kempty falls, then you need to take around two thousand rupees with you. It's too costly. But yes not worth as you end up going to a place which is dirty and filthy with nothing good to eat, all maggie booths which they can't prepare in a good way and add there own masalas and sell for Rs 70 or so. It takes you 45 minutes to reach there after a steep road downwards.

"Beautiful place"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Mussoorie is regarded as a very beautiful hill station with the beauty of the Garhwalis and the white head high clouds enveloping the city.

Though I had been to this place previously as well but the stay at Club mahindra resort added a cherry on cake of this trip.

Kempty fall is a wonder to see with all the water splashing around, one can just lose himself in the waterfalls. Shikara and boating added some more good memories to it. Being a part of BSG it was a pleasure for me to sit in the monastery and uplift the inner peace. You'll find a magnificent Tibetan culture. From monastery one can stand and feel the freshness in the air and capture moments.
