About Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls, situated at an altitude of 4,500 ft, is one of the popular tourist places of Mussoorie. It is a beautiful waterfall, which falls from a height of about 40 ft from a mountain. This fall is located on way between Dehradun-Mussoorie path.

John Mekinan, in 1835, had developed this place as a tourist destination due to its panoramic surroundings and views. The name of the place is derived from Camp-tea, the place where Britishers organised tea parties during their ruling period.

The falls is one of the largest among five down rushing falls, which flows down through various rocks and finally enters into the plains. While going 12 km downhill and after crossing the Aglar River, tourists can also reach the Yamuna River. Further, the site is also popular for swimming and fishing activities.

The place is visited for taking bath under the falls and for enjoying the beautiful views of surroundings. Tourists can also reach a beautiful pond while climbing a few steps in the flow of the stream. Located at the footsteps of the falls, the pond is a huge enclosure formed naturally by the stream.

Tourists can easily reach the destination by hiring taxis or buses, which regularly operate from Mussoorie as well as Dehradun.

The kempty falls is one of the main attractions in Mussoorie and it also has quick ropeway service available for Rs. 100 per pax roundtrip. Its windy and chilly here due to flowing waterfalls.

"This is the place to be" new review

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
This is probably the best place in Mussoorie and if you want your trip to end on a high note, this is the place to be. The tickets to the place sells out pretty quickly so keep an eye on that. The place holds every necessary thing you would need, it also has rope-line trolleys for your convenience, therefore no worries as to what to bring or not. Other than the fall, you should also explore the stairs leading to the origin of the fall and have a little trekking experience too. So, just reach there and take a dive of your lifetime.

"Very costly but filthy place" new review

  • 2.0/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
But yes if you are planning for Kempty falls, then you need to take around two thousand rupees with you. It's too costly. But yes not worth as you end up going to a place which is dirty and filthy with nothing good to eat, all maggie booths which they can't prepare in a good way and add there own masalas and sell for Rs 70 or so. It takes you 45 minutes to reach there after a steep road downwards.

"Beautiful place" new review

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted 4 weeks ago
Mussoorie is regarded as a very beautiful hill station with the beauty of the Garhwalis and the white head high clouds enveloping the city.

Though I had been to this place previously as well but the stay at Club mahindra resort added a cherry on cake of this trip.

Kempty fall is a wonder to see with all the water splashing around, one can just lose himself in the waterfalls. Shikara and boating added some more good memories to it. Being a part of BSG it was a pleasure for me to sit in the monastery and uplift the inner peace. You'll find a magnificent Tibetan culture. From monastery one can stand and feel the freshness in the air and capture moments.

"Nice falls"

If going to Mussoorie, Kempty fall is probably the first place to go to. Should start early morning to prevent getting stuck in jams and easy parking. Has lots of eateries and shops. Do take extra pair of clothes, towel etc. To take a dip in the mini pool below the falls.

Kempty Fall is just 13 kilometers from Mussoorie for sightseeing it is very much in the surrounding of great hills. One has to go by taxi or his own conveyance, while reaching there you can take tickets of trolley. You can enjoy the bath here only in summers.

Not to miss the ropeway and some boating experience between the hills. Even mountain adventure is there which is a bit different. Food is available in plenty, have maggi and tea.

"Waterfalls surrounded by beautiful Mountains and Lakes"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Surrounded by beautiful Mountains and Lakes you also have some water sports, you can enjoy Shikara and paddle boat. The waterfall is worth a visit. You can enjoy boating in Lakes and Swim in swimming pool. Visit during Broad daylight. Carry an extra set of cloths in case you get drenched you can change. Their is rappelling but I did not find it safe. There is a ropeway to go, to downstream but prefer walking as you will miss the fun on the way. You can enjoy corn and UP style chat and Gol guppa . Put on shoes with good grip as it has small pebbles which make the place little slippery.

Very Good place for visitors to go. It is 13 Km from Mussoorie. The fall has very cold water and we had bath in that for 2hrs. Can go with foot or with Cable. You can bath in cold water as well as there are many shops in which you can shop. Recommend to go with own vehicle.

"Fun with Falls"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Waterfall is surely worth a visit because it's a beauty in itself, to see clear water falling from the height and giving a calm atmosphere all around. You can easily even rent clothes from there and go in the pond made over there or do certain activities available there. You can even try ropeways which is chargeable though.
