About Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls, situated at an altitude of 4,500 ft, is one of the popular tourist places of Mussoorie. It is a beautiful waterfall, which falls from a height of about 40 ft from a mountain. This fall is located on way between Dehradun-Mussoorie path.

John Mekinan, in 1835, had developed this place as a tourist destination due to its panoramic surroundings and views. The name of the place is derived from Camp-tea, the place where Britishers organised tea parties during their ruling period.

The falls is one of the largest among five down rushing falls, which flows down through various rocks and finally enters into the plains. While going 12 km downhill and after crossing the Aglar River, tourists can also reach the Yamuna River. Further, the site is also popular for swimming and fishing activities.

The place is visited for taking bath under the falls and for enjoying the beautiful views of surroundings. Tourists can also reach a beautiful pond while climbing a few steps in the flow of the stream. Located at the footsteps of the falls, the pond is a huge enclosure formed naturally by the stream.

Tourists can easily reach the destination by hiring taxis or buses, which regularly operate from Mussoorie as well as Dehradun.

"Of no use, even home tap will look better" new review

  • 2.00/7
  • Posted 2 days ago
It seems artificially created and it is no more than a extremely small water flow bit like a home tap. Total waste of time, don't go here instead plan Dhanaulti.

"Just a waterfall that is overrated" new review

  • 3.00/7
  • Posted 6 days ago
Highly avoidable, quite a waste of time and spoils our mood, nothing exciting to see. Except a traffic jam that takes half a day to clear up, no privacy and vendors can be intimidating.

"Really worth visiting" new review

Its really a worth the visit if you land in Mussoorie. We went in the morning and it was very crowded and there is no much place for a big crowd. However you can take bath under the falls. Cloths are available on rent but better you carry your own.

Fantastic, perfect never miss to take a good camera there, you should do photography going down the Kempty Falls - by the ropeway it's a magnificent feeling. My suggestion is to go wearing a shoe with very good grip and, do not miss a cup of Fuming Hot Coffee at the down portion of the Falls.

"Excellent place to visit" new review

  • 7.00/7

After reaching Mussoorie in April 2015, first thing in mind was to travel to Kempty fall as soon as possible. Kempty fall is about 15 km from Mussoorie, when I reached was mesmerized by seeing the beauty of the mountains and falls. It is one of the best place to visit in North India and believe me you will be surprised by seeing the beauty and the atmosphere of Kempty fall. One can reach to Kempty fall by a private taxi. May to September is the best time to visit.

Pros: It is easy to reach, awesome place to refresh yourself, bath in a pool beautifully created by nature, shopping is one of the best attraction and no fee.
Cons: Food quality is not up to the mark.
