About Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls, situated at an altitude of 4,500 ft, is one of the popular tourist places of Mussoorie. It is a beautiful waterfall, which falls from a height of about 40 ft from a mountain. This fall is located on way between Dehradun-Mussoorie path.

John Mekinan, in 1835, had developed this place as a tourist destination due to its panoramic surroundings and views. The name of the place is derived from Camp-tea, the place where Britishers organised tea parties during their ruling period.

The falls is one of the largest among five down rushing falls, which flows down through various rocks and finally enters into the plains. While going 12 km downhill and after crossing the Aglar River, tourists can also reach the Yamuna River. Further, the site is also popular for swimming and fishing activities.

The place is visited for taking bath under the falls and for enjoying the beautiful views of surroundings. Tourists can also reach a beautiful pond while climbing a few steps in the flow of the stream. Located at the footsteps of the falls, the pond is a huge enclosure formed naturally by the stream.

Tourists can easily reach the destination by hiring taxis or buses, which regularly operate from Mussoorie as well as Dehradun.

"Quite crowded Falls" new review

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
Numerous steps winding through a very crowded bazaar take you down to the falls. It is an average falls, not very big and neither very small. If you are fit enough and can handle walking up and down the steps, go for it. The ropeway was closed on the day I visited. The public loo (Rs 5/- for a visit) was very clean, which was pretty surprising for such a crowded place.

"A beautiful natural, crowded park and fully commercialized" new review

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
It's worth if you are visiting Dehradun/Mussoorie, can enjoy in natural water. It's damn crowded on holidays and summer time. The Falls itself is quite beautiful, but a small pond-like swimming pool has been artificially created, spoiling its natural beauty. You need to go through a labyrinth of lanes, to see the falls. Old people can take cable car to reach falls.

"Amazing experience" new review

You take a Cable Car to reach the place. In some areas, staircase is very steep. You may want to go up the stairs and climb down to go to upper area of the fall. People were excited to take a dip as well.

The stunning view is when you come down and see the Kempty Fall right in front of you, that's a wow moment. The falling water sprinkling on your face makes you more and more mesmerised, and also you feel the purity and serenity of Kempty Falls. Truly eye catching and a place to click a picture perfect of you and your family.

"Very dirty maintenance of Falls" new review

  • 1.5/7
  • Posted 4 weeks ago
Urbanisation at Mussoorie and construction over the Kempty Fall made it very dirty. It looks like urban city "Nala" flowing down from top. The beauty of aesthetic value of Kempty Fall has been destroyed by humans.

"Beautiful and fun filled place"

Very scenic and beautiful place. You can go down by trolley or by walk. Though you have to walk a lot to get down but there are shops all along the way and if doesn't seem tiring. I liked the place and quiet recommend it to anyone visiting Mussoorie.

It is a nice place to visit with your family and friends. There is a marketplace on the way to Kempty Fall, this is the best waterfall for photo clicks.
