About Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls, situated at an altitude of 4,500 ft, is one of the popular tourist places of Mussoorie. It is a beautiful waterfall, which falls from a height of about 40 ft from a mountain. This fall is located on way between Dehradun-Mussoorie path.

John Mekinan, in 1835, had developed this place as a tourist destination due to its panoramic surroundings and views. The name of the place is derived from Camp-tea, the place where Britishers organised tea parties during their ruling period.

The falls is one of the largest among five down rushing falls, which flows down through various rocks and finally enters into the plains. While going 12 km downhill and after crossing the Aglar River, tourists can also reach the Yamuna River. Further, the site is also popular for swimming and fishing activities.

The place is visited for taking bath under the falls and for enjoying the beautiful views of surroundings. Tourists can also reach a beautiful pond while climbing a few steps in the flow of the stream. Located at the footsteps of the falls, the pond is a huge enclosure formed naturally by the stream.

Tourists can easily reach the destination by hiring taxis or buses, which regularly operate from Mussoorie as well as Dehradun.

The chilling water in the falls really compliments the natural beauty. There are many changing rooms and lockers available for tourists who can enjoy the beautiful falls and have some awesome time there.

"One time watch" new review

  • 5.00/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
The place is crowded and very poorly managed. Parking is a big problem. There is a cable car to reach the falls, else you can go by stairs (300 stairs if I remember correctly). We had to wait for half hour in the queue to board cable car after buying the ticket. Poor cleanliness when we reached the falls. There are many shops surrounding the falls which rent costumes for taking bath in the falls and provide small changing rooms. So if you plan to play with the waters, better to come dressed up accordingly.

"Better to visit during March" new review

  • 4.00/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
It would have been a good place if not spoiled by human for making money. I visited this place twice in March and in May. March visit was great than May, may a times it is so crowded that you probably regret on your decision to visit. Some paid areas are not so worth to visit. Cable car is available. Prefer getting down via stairs and going up by cable car.

"Natural fall that looks like artificial fall" new review

  • 5.00/7
  • Posted 4 weeks ago
Due to lot of civil construction, Kempty Falls looks like artificial fall rather than natural fall. The rates of rope way are excessively high. One can even walk down to the falls to skip the rope way but senior citizens should prefer to use rope way.

"A small but beautiful falls" new review

  • 6.00/7
  • Posted 4 weeks ago
This was my 2nd visit to this destination & I was thinking that I would get bored as I've already been here but the place didn't disappointed me and the reason was the level of water was more in June as compared to my last visit which was in December, 2 years back.

Well, my recommendation would be to visit it in rainy season because, the more is the level of water, the more excitement it creates.
