Lying close to the border of Karnataka-Kerala is a tiny village, Somnathpur, about 40 km from Mysore, named after the Hoysala Army’s Chief Commander and founder, Somnath. It is known for the Hoysala period temples especially the Kesava temple that was built in 1268 AD. Extensively carved with trikutachala or three-celled, star-shaped structure that has been carved with the stories from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana apart from other figurines of Gods and goddesses are worth a visit.
