First hill station visit in North East India

Posted 13 Jun, 2016

It was our first family hill station tour to North East India. The calculation of selecting this place "the queen of hill stations" to get rid of the higher mercury levels in Bangalore didn't go wrong. The front office did welcome us with a warm smile in the late evening of 14th May 2016. The suite which was booked well in advance was not available and we were told that we have been given a supreme suite as an up gradation. It was a duplex kind of suite but we suffered with lack of heater in the second room. One of the days of stay the vegetarian soup we ordered had some insect in it and was replaced. Would say when this property is fully occupied they lack man power which was very evident when we were checking out. Believe me it took more than 25 minutes for signing the invoice as the skeletal manpower was suffering settling bills of guests checking out before me. Well we could have a glimpse of Kanchenjunga from near our room itself. Also the Ghoom Monestry is next to the gate of this property. If anyone is travelling to opt this hotel please make sure that you have your own vehicle or have organised one. This property is above 1000 ft. From Ghum and far from market place or main road. Taxis parked here will follow the same tarif from the hotel which according to them is fixed price. Next time if I opt to stay here would strictly insist for the room selected and no up gradation. As the suite provided had a small kitchen (with oven) and utensils would plan to cook ourselves. Of course will hire a taxi in advance to keep the meter under control Overall I do not want to blame or praise much We enjoyed the stay and had the glimpse of Kanchenjunga on our wedding anniversary day (which the hotel didn't know - We frequent to sterling holiday resort and had stayed in Kodaikanal in the previous month - May 2016 with all our details revealed with them)

The best of all Sterling Resorts

Posted 14 Jun, 2016

I visited this place with my family. Away from Darjeeling town at a place called Ghoom. Need to travel bit inside from the main road also. It 1000 ft above Darjeeling town and hence climate is more chill and enjoyable. The name of the resort is changed and it is now Khush Alaya. The resort is renovated and is brand new now. The interior in the rooms were great. The 2 rooms had 2 big TVs so when me and my son watched cricket my daughter could watch her interest in the other TV. Rooms were clean and neat. 2 room heaters provided were working fine. Outside area was very cold in the night. Restaurant was good and buffet is combined for dinner and breakfast. So the first day we had buffet and the other days room service. Food was not that great but OK. You do not have any other restaurants nearby so no options for breakfast and dinner. Lunch you can have in other good places when you go out for site seeing. The bar is good but little costly. There were party game on all nights by 6. 30pm and we enjoyed the games. Room intercom was not working for 2 days. Airtel range was poor at the resort. No free WiFi. The reception guys were cordial and arranged all our Taxis for site seeing. Take Sumo for local site seeing and Innova for long trips like Airport and Gangtok.
