Kochi (Cochin) food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Biggest tip is to not stir out of the resort. The trips to the shops are really time killing and defn not worth it. We picked up hazaar stuff at the resort tho... mostly ayurvedic massage oils and such.
Get as many massages as you can fit it.
And if you are travelling with kids take some entertainment for them along.... they tend to tire of the scenery fast, and the rain can just come down any time.

Hotel Review of Cherai Beach Resorts
Comments: I decided on Cherai Beach Resorts after member reviews and visiting their website. I was particularly impressed by the fact that the villas are actually in the backwaters and there is a beach close by. Our 3 day stay there was wonderful. The resort is a good 20 kms from the airport and the drive is smooth on narrow roads. We were greeted by Mr. Samuel at the reception, who gave us his full attention, even as a big group of phirangs were already there, making inquiries.
Fortunately, our villa was available and we were checked in 3 hours before the scheduled check-in time. As we passed the reception and heritage villas into the backwaters, my husband's weary smile turned into a full grin and that was just the beginning of our memorable holiday. Though we couldn't get a heritage villa, we were happy to check into a lake facing modern villa.
Our villa in the middle of the backwaters came with a nice sit-out, wardrobe, TV and a spacious bathroom. Only, the geyser was small and there wasn't a good flow of hot water, a complaint eagerly accepted by Mr. Samuel. I was happy to see that the resort follows eco-friendly guidelines, as milk packets were replaced by a huge milk container; guests are urged to save water and energy (with sign boards); also you could request housekeeping not to change the bed lining in a bid to save water :).
Service was prompt with a smile, any time of the day. Every members of the staff, who met us smiled at us like they were happy to see us.
One can walk out of the resort and into the Cherai beach. Post the monsoon, the tides were huge crashing into the rocky shore.
The place is just right for a lazy afternoon in the hammock, walks by the backwaters watching the fishermen artistically fish for their booty, casual fishing in the backwaters, watching the high tides crash on the rocky beach or simply taking in the view from your villa.
The resort has a very traditional feel to it with small bridges and swings making your path. Many examples of Kerala architecture are displayed through the different heritage villas; each completely different from the other.
The restaurant 'Oottupura' had a nice airy feel to it, with the Kerala buffet served in earthen pots. The food was good. Breakfast was a mix of Indian and Kerala dishes and pineapple juice on all days. Lunch and dinner had good measure of vegetarian and non-vegetarians dishes. Though they could have more variety for dessert and juices.
Best Experience: The boat ride to the, Ayurmana Spa and the wonderful 'Uzhichil' massage could be the best experience, in our overall wonderful stay. Sailing in a hand-rowed boat in the endless backwaters brimming with water, was an experience in itself.
Also the location was great for someone, who wants to relax amidst nature. Great place for honeymooners.
Worst Experience: Can't say worst in any way, but hot water was much needed as we went after the showers.

I stayed here for 1N & 1D.The Location and appearance is really good. With backwater behind the resort and Beach in the front its arguably one of the better resorts in Cochin. However its way to far.But if you are looking for a peaceful location in Cochin, this one is simply gr8.Food & service is decent and nothing bad to write about other than a limited menu....

Hotel Review of Cherai Beach Resorts
We were on our honeymoon and had a very good and memorable time in the resort. The resort has great location by having backwater on one side and beach on the other. Rooms of the resort are very good and are of true Kerala style. Overall ambience of the resort is great and excellent. Staff is welcoming and good. Being vegetarian I found food ok, but it was a feast for the non-veg eaters....

The resort is well designed and the location is good. The staff is very friendly and food is good esp the sea food. Perhaps you can not ask for more except that tariff seems bit high for the quality of rooms....
