Kochi (Cochin) food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Biggest tip is to not stir out of the resort. The trips to the shops are really time killing and defn not worth it. We picked up hazaar stuff at the resort tho... mostly ayurvedic massage oils and such. Get as many massages as you can fit it. And if you are travelling with kids take some entertainment for them along.... they tend to tire of the scenery fast, and the rain can just come down any time.

Hotel Review of Taj Residency
Comments: I stayed at the Taj Residency-Ernakulam during monsoon 2008.Since it was raining Kerala is all the more beautiful and when you top it with a beautiful hotel and impeccable service by the staff, the memories of such a holiday are bound to linger for years to come.

Best Experience: The hotel is very centrally located with shopping arcades, restaurants and cofee shops close by.

We stayed in an Excutive floor room at the higher floor of the hotel, which was in mint condition as the hotel was going through a complete refurbishing. The view of the cochin harbour from the room window which was a full length glass, was really soothing especially when it rained heavily.

House keeping was good, on time and food was really nice.I usually dont like food at star hotels but this one was really nice, breakfast was the finest selection of continental, north and south indian and they made the most tastiest 'appam (fermented rice flour pancakes) and stew (meat or vegatable stew pepared in syrian catholic style) a local delicacy served at the hotels Bubbles Cafe.

The hotel also arranges a sunset cruise on somedays- weather permitting which takes you for a 2hr ride across the Cochin harbour on the way it even picks up guest from The Taj Malabar Hotel. The cruise was a surprise bundled in the package we had purchased from Taj

What impressed me the most was the Service of the staff be it valet, front desk, house keeping, room service or the restaurant staff they were all simply great and with a genuine smile.

Last but not the least, the Duty Manager Mr Ajit really went out of his way to arrange a taxi for me,Since im a PRACTISING SIKH
I wanted to visit the local Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) it was raining heavily and it wasnt easy to find a taxi,Mr Ajit then arranged the hotel car to take us to the local Gurudwara and back. This really touched me.It really shows that the hotel cares for the sentiments of their guest.

Taj Residency Ernakulam is a definately worth staying if you are in Cochin City...Im sure you wont be disappointed

I will Surely go back.

Worst Experience: Cant point this as worst, but the only disappointment is the hotels lobby which looks quiet worn out and old.Not the usual Taj standards. But i guess they revamping the entire hotel so the lobby may have a new look soon.
