Kochi (Cochin) food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Biggest tip is to not stir out of the resort. The trips to the shops are really time killing and defn not worth it. We picked up hazaar stuff at the resort tho... mostly ayurvedic massage oils and such. Get as many massages as you can fit it. And if you are travelling with kids take some entertainment for them along.... they tend to tire of the scenery fast, and the rain can just come down any time.

Hotel Review of Thani Illam
Comments: This was an extrordinary experience for me. the hosts are Brahmin Hindus. The home itself is about 300 years old and belonged to a very famous Malayalam cartoonist until it was bought by the currnt owners. I felt as though I was part of the family and these highly intelligent people were more than willing to share their culture, information about their religion and their lives with me. The father is a sanskrit scholar, the wife a published writer and their adult son is an ecologist. I was able to arrange a temple tour complete with a driver as well as bathing one of the nearby orphan elephants. The food also was also delcious and it was prepared by various members of the family. One of my experiences was to meet a young Malayam yogi master on his way to Germany at one of our meals together. I learned a lot about the history of the area. The room was comfortable and clean as was everything else in the home.
Best Experience: Well giving the elephant a bath was up there. Also their willingness to answer all my ignorant questions about everything. Oh and they have a well where they get water the old way, right in their kitchen
Worst Experience: As in many places I visited the electrics went out at least once a day but usually for a shourt while.
