Hotel Review of Carlton, The
Comments: The Carlton is quite worthy of its reputation of being the best resort/ hotel in Kodaikanal, a position it has held for a long time.
The location is pretty, just adjacent to Kodai lake and the resort itself is spread over a large area, beautifully landscaped and impressively laid out.
The mix of activities available for a family with kids is amazing, from the boat club that offers 'shikara' rides to a cycling rink with bicyles for all ages, badminton, table tennis, hammocks all around, an activity room with lots to do, a reasonable library, and lovely play area for toddlers too.
The health club/ spa is good, although the peak season rush made any treatments a bit of a rushed affair.
The staff is courteous and helpful--geared to meet all your needs!
Best Experience: 1. The restaurant offered a great fare for breakfast and meals. The staff led by one Mr Senthil was always willing to do the extra bit for our kids' requirements.
2. The rooms are very spacious and well equipped. The rooms on the upper floors offer a great view of Kodai lake.
Worst Experience: No worst experience to speak of, but some areas for improvement:
1. The room service menu could do with better choices and probably faster service.
2. The travel desk seems to offer the most expensive deals in town. But are willing to climb down if you ask.
3. House-keeping, though quite good, could become a bit more meticulous. We found the area under the beds a bit dusty.

The hotel is really the best place to be in Kodai. The staff is very warm and helpfull and take all efforts to make the stay comfortable and memorable. The rooms, though old, but maintained well. Hotel has a lot of activities like boating, games like snooker, pool, TT etc and also the health club. Its an ideal place for a short weekend break specially from the hot weather of Bangalore. The service is very bad, the staff isn’t courteous, there is no fire prevention system in the hotel of this calibre, the food is bad (not much choice either), the driveway is cobbled and does not give a good feel when you pull into the driveway for the first time....
