I had been to Kohinoor Samudra many years back on a office picnic and was very impressed by its stunning views and excellent location. That was a short one night trip, so when we planned a trip to Ganpatipule with family, I decided to go back to Kohinoor Samudra for a extended 4 nights vacation. To my disappointment, its stunning views and location are the only reason to visit this place . A good swimming pool and Jacuzzi is a face saver, external ambience is attractive . Very good walkways built through the resort . Rest all is a big disappointment . A bit about the resort first -The resort is divided into two wings - an old block that originally was the resort and a new block that now hosts the main reception. Every room would be with a view, so decision whether to choose old block or the new block depends on following. Old block - personally I felt the view is better from there (our bunglow was in old block); you see coconut plantations from your room and the sea beyond, with a river running along the plantations merging on to the sea . Excellent view. The children play park in old block is in better shape than the new block. The downside is the sunset point for some reason is a public place (even though it is within resort's premises) and there would be a little crowd in the old block where the sunset point is located in the evenings . It is a strange feeling, you are in a "luxury" resort and still in a public place; it is convenient when travelling in group of big family because the bunglows are in the old block, you can park your vehicle right in front of your accommodation in old block which is not the case with new block; if your family includes elderly or people who would have difficulty climbing stairs, bunglows in old block or the ground floor rooms in old block are the best places to be . New Block - the new block is the place to be if you prefer comfort over view (though the view is quite good from new block too) - the new block hosts the swimming pool, restaurant, pool table so it is much more convenient (remember there is no room service from old block you have to go down to the new block even for your evening cup of tea. New block only have couple rooms so if travelling in group or big family you would need to book more than one room . Let me talk more about the good things . View & Location - The resort is located on a small plateau adjacent to bhatye beach and designed in a way you get a view of the sea and a huge coconut plantation adjoining it from anywhere in the resort - the old and new blocks, garden, swimming pool, lounge . I guess front desk would be the only exception where you do not get this great view. Swimming Pool - the resort has a good size swimming pool with attached kids pool and also a small Jacuzzi, good thing is they offer the impressive view I keep talking of, are well maintained, fully functional and also have water slides! Great fun . External Ambience - the buildings are well maintained from outside, well painted and look impressive. The property has a huge lobby which also has impressive ambience. The resort has a "titanic deck" that doubles up as "sunset point"; this is just a formality though . We could see the sunset right from the balcony of our bunglow as well. Having given enough reasons why you should be there, now on to my huge list of woes -. Absolutely Pathetic Front Desk - they seem to have a good track record of messing up with bookings; I booked the resort more than one month in advance, specifically asked them to reserve for me "two executive rooms" (in the new block) and not the "bunglows" (in old block). My reservation voucher (booked via a travel agent in Mumbai though I am from Pune . But let's not get into that had it clearly written - 2 executive rooms. After booking I called them up and they assured they will give me rooms in the new block. The day I was supposed to check-in, I called again in the morning and they said they will give rooms in the new block. When it was time to check-in they had reserved a bunglow for me. This is unforgivable. I wasted a good one hour haggling about this at their front desk (after 8 hour long drive), they offered two rooms in new block that were not used for ages and were stinking . Essentially left me no choice but to check into the bunglow. There was another gentleman next to me in more pathetic situation - he had made booking but the resort didn't have it on their record! Two incidences in poor light same day same time . Can't be coincidence. There is more about front desk though . If they are speaking to somebody else in front desk (or on phone), walk in there and you would not interfere . Hoping they would make an attempt to attend to you soon. You are mistaken - they simply don't acknowledge your presence, leave apart attending to you. Make sure you interrupt. On one occasion I made a request at front desk for which they called up their housekeeping guys . 3 attempts and nobody picked up the phone. Finally somebody picked up . I was asked to wait 5 minutes, I waited for 25 . And then left. Utter callousness Equally pathetic housekeeping - few examples and you would know why is no room service, but if you happen to get some stuff from restaurant to your room (for example some food for kids because you don't know when they would eat) be assured the dishes won't be removed from the room. They won't remove the tea cups they bought themselves. Not even if you ask them to. Used utensils were left inside the bunglow for two days, third day we put them out on the sit out and each day we asked housekeeping to remove them. They did remove them, on the fourth day. Tea spilt on floor, we asked them to clean up but didn't turn up on three follow ups; we cleaned it ourselves. Regular housekeeping was done every day, but the time was fixed around afternoon . They won't come before that or after that even if you ask for; to be fair, they do give out toiletries, water bottles when you ask for (no fixed time for that! ). They don't have duplicate keys; your room won't be cleaned if you are out and don't leave your keys at the front desk. Half of the power plugs were broken or didn't work. Some curtains were half way fallen off when we checked in; obviously it was not mended before our check in nor during our stay until we asked it to be fixed. If the door of a room is closed, they don't have the decency to knock before entering. Due to rainy season the windows of the bunglow were all wrapped with polythene and blocked the view from inside the room; we travelled in November which is way past the peak rainy season so no point in continuing to block the windows and the breathtaking view beyond it. There is no room service; they serve only the morning tea in room - for all meals and for evening tea you have to travel to the new block which would be a little above half a km from old block and within the campus . No big deal you would say, but it does sound like a big deal for a resort that charges the rates this one does; they will send their own vehicle but it is a pain to wait for it every time, you would end up using your own vehicle as that is much more convenient. There were hardly any instances when a service asked was responded without cross questioning . It is irritating when you ask for a service and people who are supposed to provide it start asking unnecessary questions. Exhaust fan of one of the bathrooms was broken . A fan without blades, and it is located right on top of the bathtub . Quite a funny sight and yes, the bathtub didn't hold water for long . I suspected this when it took too long to fill, and it emptied itself within 5 minutes. One of the A/C didn't have temperature control . You could either turn it on or off. Other disappointments Internal room ambience doesn't match the external upkeep of buildings; the bunglow we were allocated was very spacious, but that's about it . Pretty average in terms of ambience, while buildings are well maintained externally, the upkeep is not good in other areas . Lawns are replaced with huge grasses, children's play park is not well maintained, half of the rides are broken, no signs of any landscaping except a half hear ted attempt around the new block. There is a lounge built at the end of the resort on top of a cliff with the sea roaring below . Enviable setting for a drink, but I never saw it open or operational. The access to the sea down the cliff seemed to be nonoperational . We didn't try to use it, but from the beach the stairs seemed to be ending in a pretty rough spot dotted with stones and wild plants, possibly inside the premises of a temple that has been built below. When I first visited the resort there was a toy train track being constructed, when I visited now it is in utter disuse rusting in between huge grasses and shrubs. To sum up, this is a resort of rare contradictions and inconsistencies - on one hand it has bathtubs and fridge in room and offer you free mineral water, on the other hand there are broken light points, no room service, hot water available only for a limited time in morning and evening. There was shower cap in one bathroom but not in another . Tea was sometimes served in ceramic cups and sometimes in disposable ones, food was some times good some times not so good (not bad though). A resort that has a lovely swimming pool which you are not allowed to use between 11 AM to 4 PM . Excellent exterior upkeep of buildings but absolutely pathetic service standards. You could ignore some of the stuff in normal circumstances, but for the money they charge they need to deliver much more much better. An excellent property that could easily be developed into a world class five star resort is being wasted by poor management. Go there just for the breathtaking view it offers but don't pay for more than one day in advance and don't assume your booking is confirmed - follow up at least three times. If you are a well travelled person and the view is not sufficient reason to go to this resort, you are better off at in Ganpatipule than at Kohinoor Samudra. This is one resort I am sure I won't visit again; it gets my 3 star rating just because of its views and location - it would be a straight "poor" rating otherwise .
Easy to travel place, attractive scenery, very innovative architecture, perfect family venue, friendly people for serving, rooms are well maintained, decorations are so much catchy. Variety of interiors, swimming pool is so good to enjoy, games club is very interesting, hospitality people are caring and a wide range of food is available, security is of prime level, it's heaven feeling, cleanliness is remarkable, hotel provides sightseeing facility, group and family dinners arrangement are done.
My overall experience in the hotel was fantastic. They provided food facility in the hotel. Food was delicious. I stayed there with my family for two days. Room was comfortable. I had no issue about this hotel. Interior and exterior look of the hotel was beautiful. Staff behaviour was helpful and friendly. Services were on time. Booking and front office services were easy. Activities were available there like swimming pool, etc. WiFi connection facility was available there. Money wise, the hotel was value for money. Hotel was located very near to the sea but it was situated outside the city. I enjoyed my holiday in this hotel. This is a recommendable hotel to other travellers. Everything was fine.
During the month of December 2016 I had been to Ratnagiri and made my stay in Kohinoor Samudra Resort. It was my holiday trip with family. The destination Ratnagiri was average. I would rate the location as average. The appearance of the hotel was good because it is clean and neat. Hotel front office was good since they are always available with correct information. I booked this room directly at hotel. The services which were provided in the hotel were very good because of quick response and politeness. Rooms which we stayed in were very good because of available facilities. The hotel food was very good because price is very comfortable with more varieties.
This hotel had a very nice location. The hotel gave a very good view of Ratnagiri, which was beautiful. It had gymnasium and WiFi. Their service and food was very good. It was fantastic experience that we had staying here. It was in the month of May that we stayed here. It was booked directly. Ratnagiri was very famous for its mangoes. It was a seafaring hotel, so the view from the room was marvellous. The hotel had a very beautiful front office.
