Koothambalam is a stage inside the Thirunelli Temple where ‘koothu’, a folk art, is performed. The stage measures around 16 m in length and 12 m in breadth and has a 13.12 sq ft platform.
It is supported in the centre with pillars and is decorated with bunches of coconut, coconut palm and fruit-bearing plantains during the dance performances. 'Para', a vessel filled with paddy, is kept on the stage along with a brass oil lamp of brass which is lit during events.
