Kerala food, sight-seeing and shopping options
In general, I found the dining experience quite good. You can get anything in Kovalam Beach (except McDonald's, thank God!). Shopping was a little less satisfying because of high pressure sales effort. Yet, we found a very nice, if expensive bedcover which reminds us now nightly about our trip to India... Still, I do recommend that you do your shopping somewhere else than Kovalam Beach, if you want to the value for your money.

Hotel Review of Bethsaida Hermitage
Comments: Bethsaida Hermitage is a haven of peace and is such a beautiful Indian experience. It's perfect if you've been travelling India already and you want a bit of luxury and seclusion - although it's also perfect as a complete holiday destination straight from the plane. The staff are the most personable, friendly and helpful people I have met and they will do anything to make your stay however you want it to be. It's definitely worth making friends with them all!!
The rooms are perfect - they're not 5* fancy so you feel at home and relaxed in them. They're clean and fresh and very private. The pool is wonderful and the grounds are lush and so wonderfully and lovingly cared for by the gardeners each day.
I recommend this place for couples, families, weary india travellers and friends travelling together. It's the kind of place that offers friendship if you'd like it or if you'd rather be alone, there's absolutely enough space that you need not see anyone at all if you'd rather!
Best Experience: I think the best thing about our stay was the way we arrived. We got there in the evening and the whole place is lit up with little twinkling fairy lights and pathways that wind and lead you to your room. The staff welcomed us all with lovely garlands and made us feel so welcome after travelling in India. You could hear the crashing of the sea and the noise of the crickets and we felt such relief and happiness when we arrived. This set us up for a wonderful surprise in the morning when we saw where we actually were and it was just magical, the whole thing was!
Worst Experience: I can't say that there was anything bad about staying at Bethsaida - it is of course India, so things happen a little slower than they do in the UK but we are flexible people and we enjoy different cultures and this is part of India's culture. We made our friendship with the staff and our relaxing holiday more important than the issues of waiting a little longer for food etc.
