"Serene river surrounded by mountains bounded by a dam"

  • 5.0/7

It was my first ride to Koynanagar, a group of Bikers GTG at Lonavala set the wheels churning. Plan was to ride to a new location, less explored and amidst nature, preferably a hill station. Koyna nagar was voted as it was near to Mumbai as well as Pune, since bikers were gonna ride in from this two cities and leaning into the nasty ghats of Kashedi is every biker's dream, but nothing could match the mean serene ghats of Kumbharli before Koynanagar. Not only the curves aroused deep sensations for the learner's but the view from at every 3rd curve was mind blowing, as if all the mountains if the Western Ghats had a meeting point from here.

The village of Koynanagar been planned in such a way that the local villages lay at the bottom of the hill while all the hotel stays and resorts up the hill with a clear view of the river and dam. A peaceful little town amidst hills and nature with delicious fresh water fish delicacies and malvani spices bound to turn on the taste buds, equally delicious is their veggie food.

Winters and Monsoon being the best time to be here, witness the starry skies around a bonfire which every hotel has, wake up to view the sunrise from behind the river, sneaking up above the mountains with its golden rays falling over the dam. Ideal place for a short getaway from Mumbai and Pune.

Take along your favorite book to read, binoculars if you love watching birds, walking or trekking shoes, a pair of shorts to swim in the river.
